A defense attorney on Thursday told jurors in a murder trial that the defendant "went insane" when he beat a woman to death after raping her and his live-in girlfriend at a house in The Village.

"At some point in time, Albert went insane. (With) the alcohol and mental illness combined ... he snapped," assistant public defender Jim Rowan told the Oklahoma County jury during his opening statement. "Albert did the things prosecutors said he did"...

Police reported Johnson struck the women in the head with a trailer hitch ball, a clothes iron and a frying pan. During the beatings, Prater said, the women begged for their lives, his girlfriend pleading that if she died her daughter would be left with no one. Johnson then put his girlfriend in the closet and continued to beat Rogers, Prater told the jury.
