By August 2001, 40-year-old Darlene Bamber was fed up with Earl Bamber, her husband of six turbulent years. Her family said she planned to leave him and bring the couple's 4-year-old daughter with her to stay with relatives in Texas...
On Aug. 16, 2001, Darlene Bamber was reported missing by her mother. Three days earlier she had dropped off the couple's daughter, Gabby, at Creative World Preschool at about 9 a.m. Later that day, Darlene Bamber spoke with a woman near a local nail salon.
No one but Earl Bamber has said they saw her since, but Pasco sheriff's Detective Allen Proctor, who has handled the case from the start, characterized Earl Bamber as a liar... About eight months after his wife's disappearance, Earl Bamber died in his bed at the Terrain Court home he had shared with her... the medical examiner's office ruled his death a suicide, caused by an overdose of hydrocodone, two types of antidepressants and acetaminophen.
