Seminole County deputies search for missing, endangered son of homicide victim
Joshua Ortiz has made suicidal statements, deputies say
Seminole County deputies are searching for a homicide victim's son, who deputies say is considered missing and endangered, along with a vehicle missing from the home. Deputies said they received a call on Sunday afternoon about an unresponsive woman inside of a home on Woodley Park Place and when they arrived, they found Jacqueline Suzanne Ortiz, 45 dead at the scene. Jacqueline Ortiz's death has been ruled a homicide, according to deputies. Investigators are searching for Joshua Galin Ortiz, 20, who may be traveling in his mother's white 2005 Ford Mustang convertible with a tag number of "G521UU."Deputies said Joshua Ortiz is considered missing and endangered, as he has made suicidal statements.

Do they suspect Joshua killed his mother or maybe he found her and and was so upset he made statements that he wanted to do himself harm? I pray he's found safe.

I was wondering the same looks like he has a charge for Grand Theft of a vehicle 3rd degree as of August this year that he was arrested for.

Friends and family of the slain Oviedo-area mother who was found dead in her home Sunday have taken to Facebook, pleading for help in finding the one person who may know what happened to her: One of her sons. Jacqueline Ortiz, 45, was found unresponsive by a family member in her home in the 3000 block of Woodley Park Place about 3:45 p.m. Sunday. Deputies have not revealed how she died or many other details. They also have not named any suspects. Her 20-year-old son, Joshua Galin Ortiz, is missing and, while he's not considered a suspect, authorities want to question him.

Wouldn't be surprised if he is the one who harmed her...Cases like that usually end like that.

As the search continued Tuesday for the 20-year-old Oviedo man who went missing after his mother was killed in their home, court records emerged detailing his struggle with mental illness, drugs and crime.

Meanwhile, family and friends on Facebook pleaded for help in finding Joshua Galin Ortiz, possibly the only person who knows what happened to Jacqueline Ortiz.

Her husband and his father, Carmelo Ortiz, is a deputy who left the Orange County Sheriff's Office six months ago. He told Oviedo police last year that his son — an accused gun and car thief — was mentally ill.

Last year, he was involuntarily placed in a mental ward after his grandfather tried to stop him from unsheathing a sword, according to an Oviedo police incident report. Joshua Ortiz then fled on his bicycle, laughing and saying, "'You'll see me in a body bag,'" according to the report. He was found unharmed the next day.

In 2010, when he was 15, Ortiz was arrested by Oviedo police, accused of slapping and pushing down his mother during an argument... Jacqueline Ortiz was not seriously hurt, according to the report, but the boy's father told the officer that his son was "a habitual runaway" who broke things in the house when he didn't get his way and "is completely out of control," according to the report

The suspect's father, Carmelo Ortiz Jr., told the officer that he drove nails into the home's windowsills to keep his son from opening windows and running away. A check of court and Oviedo police records shows that Joshua Ortiz often disappeared from home. His parents filed several missing persons reports.

Sounds like they might have been better off just letting the kid run away.

A man who investigators said killed his mother and then stole her car to get away is set to face a judge Monday...

Joshua Ortiz's father said he believes his son was off medication for mental illness when he allegedly killed his mother.

But prosecutors said a week before Jaqueline Ortiz's death Joshua appeared to be competent, so much so that he was elected the foreman of a jury for a DUI case.

.

This is baffling. How does a person with an outstanding criminal record for grand theft appx. 3 MONTHS ago, prior assaults, involuntarily admitted for mental evaluation for swinging a sword at family less than 1 YR ago get passed Jury Screening? Come On. I know its a free country but there is something very wrong here. IMO

Police have released audio capturing a Florida man calmly describing how he came at his mother with a hatchet before authorities say he strangled her in her kitchen...

"Who engaged who first?" a detective is heard asking the 20-year-old in the newly released tape. "Me," he replied...

Like his mother, whose death was ruled from asphyziation, he was found having scratches and bruises deemed consistent from a fight.

State records released this week provide new details about the homicide, about Ortiz's bizarre behavior in the hours leading up to it and his long history of mental problems, which friends and family blame on drug abuse.

Defense lawyer Thomas Greene would not discuss his client's mental state. In two weeks, he will ask a Sanford judge to find his client mentally incompetent to stand trial...

Jackie Ortiz knew her middle son, Joshua, was disturbed but didn't act because she didn't want to see him locked up in a mental ward, her children told investigators.

This morning Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson ruled that, based on the evaluations of a psychiatrist and a psychologist, Ortiz is currently mentally incompetent. She ordered him to a state mental hospital, but also said he probably won't be there long.

Psychologist Daniel Tressler wrote in a report filed last week that Ortiz will likely get better in two to three months, she said. Because of that, she asked attorneys to return to court May 20 to give her an update.
