    TX - Carol Reed, 17, Brownsville, 6 Dec 1993

Jessica Belton said she knew her sister had been murdered — even before authorities contacted her family — when she saw televised news images of her sister’s clothing strewn on the side of a lonely back road in Olmito more than 20 years ago.

The strangled body of Carol Ramona Reed, a 17-year-old Hanna High School senior, was found by highway personnel on FM 1421 on Dec. 7, 1993. Since then, investigators have been determined to put her killer behind bars...

Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz said the DA’s Cold Case Unit has been able to make progress on the unsolved murder but needs the public’s help to bring the person responsible for her death to justice.

County investigators said reed was last seen the day before, walking into the old Lopez Supermarket off Ringgold Street in downtown Brownsville. She walked in with two other people to buy three bottles of Coca-Cola...

Investigators reported that 41-year-old Jorge Medina is a suspect in Reed's murder.

The district attorney's office is not releasing details of Reed's autopsy but said she was not sexually assaulted. They believe the motive in her death may have been retaliation.

A person of interest in a 21 year long cold case has been arrested at a football game in Brownsville.

Jorge Medina, now 41-years-old, is a suspect in the murder of Carol Reed...

The Cameron County District Attorney’s Office will question Medina in the case, spokesperson Melissa Landin confirmed.

It is not clear what role Medina might have played in the disappearance of Reed, and authorities have not yet charged him in the case.
