Pierce County prosecutors contend a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier shot and killed his 19-year-old wife last week because he was angry that another man had bought liquor for her.

On Wednesday, they charged Skylar Nemetz, 20, with first-degree murder in the Oct. 16 death of Tarrah Nemetz.

A not-guilty plea was entered on Nemetz’s behalf during his arraignment in Superior Court. Court Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered him jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.

"First he told a neighbor that his wife had shot herself, and then he had told an officer that he shot her when the gun went off when the gun hit his thigh, and finally he said he maybe shouldered the weapon and pulled the trigger," said Lindquist. "The true story is the defendant shot his wife because he believed she was cheating on him."

Lindquist said Nemetz's wife was sitting at the computer when he shot her in the back of the head with an AR-15 rifle. The bullet traveled through her head and into the computer screen. A neighbor heard the shot and called 911.

So sad, Danielle was a beautiful girl. Interesting that Skylar has a picture of him behind bars as his profile picture.

He says it "was an accident", yet according to OkieGranny's link:
Prosecutors argue the soldier was trained to use weapons and owned 15 guns, even leaving his wife one for protection.

I hope they have a speedy trial so he isn't free for long.

Oh this is so sad [emoji20]

Neither even old enough to drink...good grief. What a waste.

Horrible. Is he still out?

What a beautiful wife he had. Shame on him!

While awaiting his murder trial in Pierce County, Washington, former Arcata High School student Skylar Nemetz is being discharged from the Army...

Nemetz pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, claiming that shooting his wife in the back of the head with an AR-15 rifle while she sat at her computer had been an accident.

After an omnibus hearing was postponed last Wednesday, the hearing has been set for May 20 and the trial has been moved to Oct. 5, Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney Jared Ausserer said.

Defense Closing

After an hour of defense's closing, a ten-minute break was called. Live stream did not resume. Defense still had another hour left on his closing. Jury was given instructions before closing arguments began. Not sure what status is now. Very little in the news about this case. If someone has latest, please post. Thanks.

Thanks for keeping this thread going. I'll be watching for a guilty of first degree murder verdict to come soon.

I thought interesting that jury isn't deciding guilt but manslaughter or first degree...they acknowledged he killed her
