GUILTY CA - Det. Michael Davis, 42, & Dep. Danny Oliver, 47, slain, Auburn, 24 Oct 2014

I've been watching CNN for a couple of hours now and there is no mention of this shooting. There are two Deputies dead. Wouldn't you think they would report on this?? RIP Deputy Oliver. Prayers for the family and friends of both officers. I've not yet found the name of the second officer but will post when I do.

Suspect in shooting spree cuffed; two deputies dead

In a somber press conference Friday afternoon, Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones confirmed that Deputy Danny Oliver, a 47-year-old father of two daughters and 15-year veteran of the department, was killed by a shot to the head Friday morning in the parking lot of the Motel 6 at Arden and Ethan Way in Sacramento.

Perhaps a Mod could change the title to "Two Officers Killed". Also, suspects have been arrested.

The deputy’s partner was able to return fire, but it was unclear whether he struck the assailant, who fled and attempted to carjack another vehicle down the street in the 700 block of Howe Avenue.

The driver of that vehicle apparently refused to surrender the keys and was shot in the head. The victim, whose condition was not known Friday afternoon, fell backward into their car and the assailants fled.

This is horrible. Such a tragedy. Two dead LE officers, a civilian shot in the head, multiple wounded...So unnecessary and tragic. Very glad they arrested the woman. Has the perp been arrested yet?

Prayers to all the families and friends of the fallen and wounded. God Speed.

Yes, thankfully he has been arrested:

Just before 4 p.m., officials announced the arrest of Marcelo Marquez, 34, who had been hiding in an Auburn home for hours.

Are there mug shots yet if these 2? How senseless and cruel. What perps don't realize that they drastically change the lives of families, including their own, and no one is ever the same again.

I am so surprised this isn't getting more coverage as well! I would much rather hear about this than about who honey boo boo's mom may or may not be dating. I am very curious about motive. I wonder what was suspicious about their vehicle when the cops first went to investigate at the hotel?

Thanks mystery Mod for the title change!:tyou:

I understand, Laborday. I heard the story from a friend offline, and came here to look. It took me forever to find this thread. I kept looking for it under "Crimes in the News", not realizing there was a section for these sorts of crimes. It finally showed up in the feed.

Anyway, thanks for starting it. It's heartbreaking and terrible. I worry more than ever about the safety of our LEOs.

I didn't realize a second officer had died.

Bless them and their families and friends.

Prayers to all of the families that are involved!

I was hired by Placer County SO as a rookie back in the late 1990's...my heart is extremely heavy tonight. I have such fond memories of the department and the employees. They put up with me :blushing: and gave me training I have used in other departments. I used some of that training 9/25/14 on a search warrant related to a high profile national case, LOL and I posted on FB (without saying what I was working on) that I was giving a shout out to my FTO and Commanding Officer back at PCSO for that training, LOL. My deepest prayers and thoughts are going to the officers lost, their families and all who loved them. This has NOT been a good year for law enforcement.

2 Deputies Killed, 1 Deputy and Civilian Shot; Suspect Finally in Custody

Along Maidu Drive in Auburn, two Placer County Sheriff’s deputies approached the truck. The suspect reportedly shot both deputies, and took off.

I was surprised when I read that the two PCSO deputies approached the suspects truck. I'm thinking they didn't know that it was involved in the earlier shooting.
