Judging by the clothing sizes, the height might be accurate. But that's an awful lot of clothes. That narrows down the time of his death to a few winter months. He might've frozen to death in the abandoned house. This past January and February were brutally cold.

What about Oscar Wilcher, who disappeared from Gulfport on Christmas 2013? He's 5'4", hispanic, and Gulfport to the abandoned house is about a hundred miles (map: https://goo.gl/maps/29HJE)

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/photos/full/42833 (his missing poster)

There's only one short article about him, in the Sun Herald, but it has aged out. Porchlight has this: http://z10.invisionfree.com/usedtobedoe/index.php?showtopic=76025

Clothing is different, but since very little is known about his circumstances, he could have had other clothing with him.

I thought he sounded like a good prospect, but his weight is 180-200 on Namus, and he looks husky in his photo. I think the JD was smaller according to clothing sizes.

Michael Truong's LKA date (Jan 2011) is one year beyond JD's 2012-2014 PMI. Height is within the estimated range but he's only 23YO as opposed to JD's est. 35-50. I suppose he could have voluntarily walked away from his life after either winning or losing big at the casino. If so, he could have ended up homeless in an around NO. Harrah's Casino is only 28mins or so from Belle Chase. I assume his brother safely made it back to CA. I wonder what became of him and if he's still in CA?

BTW, I thought this guy might have been MP Michael Truong but ages are off by four years.

Full human skeleton discovered in an abandoned home in Belle Chasse, Plaquemines Parish, LA. This is very near the area where Belle Chasse John Doe was found in Feb 1975. Not suggesting the two are related. It's just interesting to note.

Human skeletal remains found in abandoned Belle Chasse home

Being a six year-old case I did a quick check of the surrounding area

With the exception of the tanks the area seem to be fairly swampy. This far south in Plaqumines Parish you start getting closer to the Gulf of Mexico. So I am surprised that the remains were found at all.

And with that level of decomposition it will be hard to determine cause of death.

Note: The link I have for Google Maps now doesn't even show the house where the remains were found which suggests it was probably removed between 2014 and when the Nola.com Article was updated in 2019.

Giang Thai Than Phan (33) is missing from Hammond, LA in 2011 supposedly on his way to Golden Meadow, LA area. He planned to stop in NO to conduct business and a text from his phone claimed he had made it to NO but Giang was never heard from again. He's two years younger than JD's estimated age of 35-50 and is 5'6" tall. He was toting around an iPhone, laptop, and jewelry which could have made him a target for a murdering thief, imo. That's one theory I have along with the one that puts him having met with foul play at the hands of a "business partner". ;)

Details of Disappearance
Phan was last seen at La Carreta Mexican Restaurant in Hammond, Louisiana on April 8, 2011. He had lunch there with an old friend from noon to 1:30 p.m. This friend was the last person to see him. Phan reportedly planned to go to New Orleans to take care of some business, then head to Golden Meadow, Louisiana. He was supposed to meet his business partner at 3:30 p.m. but never showed up. His business partner texted him at 4:00 p.m. to ask where he was. Phan texted back to say he was running late and would meet his partner after he finished his business in New Orleans. He has never been heard from again. Phan was driving a gold 2009 Chevrolet Malibu with a few dents and the Texas license plate number CB5G609. He had his wallet, an iPhone, his laptop computer and a black bag with him. He is from Dallas, Texas and was in Louisiana on a business trip at the time he vanished. Phan has a business called Herbalife, selling herbal supplements to fitness centers. Golden Meadow police are investigating his case, which remains unsolved.

January 2014

February 2014

Based on the records (Courtesy of Weather Underground) Temps deep to below freezing on January 28 through January 30.

However there is more than enough opportunities where Temps dipped down into the low 40's and upper 30's too.

The issue I see with this theory is the relative size of the victim posted above and the skeleton which has the individual at 5'2 which is significantly shorter.

Ty for the feedback, @CaptKzin1 and welcome to WS! :)

The NamUs profile has height estimated at 5'2" while LSU Faces lab has it estimated 5'2"-5'6". Also, I always go off of the assumption that a MP's height is estimated due to reporting and/or entry errors. I apologize for not including that link even though it was posted above.
