Search for woman trying to sell child at Hammond gas station extends into Texas
Authorities in Louisiana and Texas on lookout for van

HAMMOND, La. —A search for a Hammond couple that tried to sell a child has now crossed over into Texas this weekend.

It all started Friday morning, when officers with the Hammond Police Department were called to the RaceTrac on U.S. Route 190 near Interstate 55. Store employees said that a woman entered the store and offered to sell a 10-year-old girl.

According to the HPD, the woman appeared to be Hispanic and pregnant and was selling the child after begging for gas money. She was accompanied by the girl and a man.

Investigators are looking for a dark colored van that the couple and child are believed to be traveling in. Officers say that the adult female was wearing a red shirt and black skirt and appeared to be pregnant.

The child is described as a female, approximately 10-years-old wearing a black shirt, black skirt and black leggings. Investigators say that the manager of the gas station managed to get the license plate number of the van.

Police issued the following information about the van:

Dark Blue 2005 Dodge Caravan

Florida License Plate: BSXR89

If you see this van, please call 911 immediately.

The search for a Hammond couple who authorities say tried to sell their child at a gas station Friday has extended to Texas, WDSU reports. Witnesses saw the couple in a blue Dodge minivan headed west on Interstate 10 near Lake Charles, possibly toward Texas, according to the report.
