According to reports at the time, someone in the facility heard banging and calls for help and notified authorities. By the time the Bedford Park Fire Department broke into the locker, Boyd was dead. "She was not alive when she was discovered," Smuskiewicz said.
Smuskiewicz did not rule out robbery as a motive for the crime but said he doubted it was the case. "If it was a robbery, they would not have moved her from the office," he said.
