Post mortem to shed light on mystery surrounding Nobbys Beach body

Police say preliminary results from a post mortem being conducted today on the body of a woman found on Newcastle's Nobbys Beach could provide answers as to how she died.

The woman, whose partially-clothed body was found on the water's edge early yesterday morning, has been identified as a 45-year-old from Mayfield.

Police spent most of yesterday searching the beach and nearby Foreshore Park for clues.

The Mayfield woman, 45, is believed to have been last seen by relatives on Tuesday night.

They had not initially raised the alarm early on Wednesday morning before they attended Waratah police station a few hours after her body was recovered.

Mystery had surrounded the arly morning discovery of the partially clad woman on the shoreline of the popular beach, with no physical marks and nothing to suggest what had happened to her.

Wearing only jeans and joggers, the woman did not appear to have been in the ocean long before being found about 6am on Wednesday.

There was no clothing or other possessions found on the beach nor was there any identification to assist the investigation.

Did we ever get a name on this woman? I can't find one anywhere in MSM.
