A truck driver in Bavaria, Germany, has been jailed for 10 and a half years for shooting at over 700 other motorists, 'to teach them a lesson'. The court in Wurzburg found the man guilty of four counts of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and dangerous interference with traffic. Prosecutors had asked for a 12-year sentence. He admitted the shootings but denied trying to harm anyone, despite the fact one of his bullets hit a woman in the neck and seriously injured her.

The 58-year-old trucker has only been named as 'Michael Harry K' because of German privacy rules, which also allowed him to go undetected for four years - despite a huge reward - as data protection rules prevented police from using cctv footage from toll booths. Many victims were also unaware their vehicle had been hit by bullets until they got home.

He was described by prosecutors as a "frustrated loner with a hatred for people and an affinity with guns."

ETA: That name doesn't sound very German to me. Seems like it's entirely fake. And photos of him have all been blurred too.

I think this gallery has to do with the case? The name and age and the theme of the photos fit

More info here (in german)

He's 58 now so he'd have been born in 1956 or thereabouts and guess which was the most common first name for males in Germany in 1956?

:) I just googled Michael Harry K

I guess the German privacy laws only apply to the courts publishing the defendant's name and photo but not to the disgruntled ex-wives.

I didn't even think to google because I was so sure the name was fake!

I hope his driving license gets taken away too - it's a miracle he didn't kill anyone and I wouldn't like to see him back on the highway. They're aggressive enough already.
