A homeless Canadian piano player who has been living on the streets of Edmonton, Alberta for 30 years has captured the world's attention. The man, known only as Ray, was filmed giving a performance of a piece of music he'd written himself, on a public, outdoor piano there. The piano is far from the best, but Ray's music is quite lovely and the video has gone viral, getting over a million views.

Older videos of a man who also appears to be Ray have been unearthed, but little more is known about him, other than that he taught himself to play.

I couldn't find the original video to post directly, but it can be viewed and listened to here, at the Daily Mail link. The woman who uploaded the video says it is now generating income, which she wants to give to Ray, when she can find him.

His name's Ryan Arcand, and he's an alcoholic. He was born on a reserve. He's never quite made it to recovery. He's been banned from a couple of pianos too; one for drinking hand sanitizer, another for having an open can of beer.

It would be a wonderful ending to his story if he could stop drinking and take up writing and paying music for a living, but I'm not sure that will happen.

'Asked how he feels when he plays, Arcand responded, "It’s like you’re playing, but you forget yourself."

He continued: "You know, it’s like truth, life. I love people. Sometimes I don’t even know if people love me, but it doesn’t matter. I love people."
