A 70-year-old Canadian woman has traveled back to Italy to return a fragment of stone she stole from Pompeii while on honeymoon 50 years ago.

The head of the Cultural Heritage Protection Group in Naples, Captain Carmine Elefante, said that the Montreal woman cried when she handed it back, and that authorities decided not to issue her with a fine. They hope her actions will encourage others who may be hiding artefacts to come forward.

I'm wondering if she saw the recent story of two Americans caught with large chunks of Pompeii in their luggage, and that was the final trigger that drove the Canadian lady to return hers? A thread on that story was opened here on WS previously: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...-taking-66lbs-of-Pompeii-ruins-home-with-them
