A South Windham man was arrested Wednesday and charged in connection with the poisoning death of a man in England. Sidney P. Kilmartin, 52, was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on one count each of mailing injurious articles and mailing injurious articles that resulted in death...

According to the indictment, Kilmartin caused the death of Andrew Denton of Hull, England, when he mailed potassium cyanide to him once in November 2012 and again the following month. Denton’s death was ruled a suicide, according to the Hull (England) Daily Mail.

Authorities haven't said how Kilmartin got the poison or how he and Denton found each other. English police say Kilmartin and Denton exchanged emails in which Kilmartin offered to sell Denton cyanide and gave him advice on using it.

The court trial of an American national, who allegedly provided cyanide to a British man who later committed suicide, has been rescheduled. The defendant has pleaded guilty to the federal charges pressed against him in connection to the death.

(...) Sidney Kilmartin will appear in court on the new schedule in October. He was initially due to stand trial next month; however, it was changed to accommodate a new lawyer. Kilmartin was charged of mailing injurious articles resulting in death, as well as wire fraud, mail fraud, witness tampering and witness retaliation.

A federal appeals court has ordered a new trial on one count for a Maine man convicted of causing an Englishman’s suicide.

The 1st Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston said that the judge allowed prejudicial testimony in the case of Sidney Kilmartin, formerly of Windham, who acquired cyanide and offered to sell it to people he met online who said they wanted to commit suicide. Kilmartin, 57, pleaded guilty to fraud-related counts and then was convicted in 2016 after a jury trial on five other counts.
