Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser said he could not comment on the details of the case, or explain why Newbegin was inside the mobile home to begin with. Park workers said the residents of the mobile home had been away for several days and that the electricity for the unit had been turned off.

A man behind bars in connection with a brutal murder was denied bond Friday in a Richmond County court. Kenneth Howard is charged with the Oct. 20 murder of 33-year-old Emily Newbegin...

Newbegin was found dead in a bathtub at 308 Carmell Place at Rocky Creek Mobile Home Park. A district attorney in the courtroom said Newbegin was found partially clothed with several stab wounds on her body and trauma to the head. Deputies said Howard admitted to getting into an argument with her and hitting Newbegin with a hatchet.

Howard's family apologized to Newbegin's husband in court.

Kenneth Howard, 47, was indicted on charges of murder and burglary in the Oct. 20 slaying of Emily Anne Newbegin, 33, in a vacant house on Carmell Street. The victim was beaten, cut and drowned.

Howard, 49, was sentenced to life in prison without parole Friday for the brutal slaying of 33-year-old Emily Anne Newbegin in 2014.

Earlier, a Richmond County Superior Court jury convicted him of felony murder and malice murder.
