Mary Ann Favre, 15, left home on her bicycle to take her 7-year-old sister to school April 22, 1974, and disappeared. The Bay St. Louis teen's skeletal remains were found nine months later. Her killer has escaped justice for 40 years...

The Sheriff's Office has reopened the cold case and Stewart is rebuilding the case file. Documents and evidence stored at the Sheriff's Office through the years washed away in 2005's Hurricane Katrina. Other law enforcement agencies that helped in the initial investigation have provided copies of documents Stewart is using to try to solve the case.

With no physical evidence in hand, the detective faces additional challenges. Two people who gave a description of a suspicious young man possibly linked to Mary Ann's death are unable to testify. One has died. The other has dementia. Still, Stewart believes the case is solvable.

Last bike ride

Mary Ann typically escorted her sister to North Bay Elementary School. The day she disappeared was no different. She hopped on her bicycle and the two headed to the school.

They stopped at the Yankee Doodle grocery store. Mary Ann bought a bottle of Coke. Her sister got candy.

They had resumed their trip to school when the bicycle's chain broke. The sister walked the rest of the way by herself. Evidence indicates Mary Ann headed home. She was seen pushing her bicycle in that direction.

A relative found the disabled bicycle in a wooded area near Boardman and Dunbar avenues, about three-tenths of a mile from Mary Ann's home. An unopened bottle of Coke was found nearby.

The relative called the Sheriff's Office about 3 p.m.

McIntyre-Rapp also says, "We have already received a couple of tips on it, yes we have, and we will continue forwarding all of our tips to Hancock County investigator, Glenn Grenon, and he will be following up on that and we are doing as much as we can do at this point." Sheriff Adam says that even though the case hasn't been looked at in years, he has little doubt it will be solved thanks to better technology and the support of the community. Adam closes, "It has to be solved. It will be solved. It’s our duty and our obligation to the families to the victim and to our county."

...Investigators questioned neighbors, including some who recalled seeing a young man, believed to be in his 20s, parked in the area and his car trunk was open.

The FBI provided the media with a sketch of the man, but no one came forward to say they recognized him....

I wonder if this sketch of the person of interest is still available?* Hope so.

Sad case, I sure hope it will be solved. Cases of young teenagers from the early 1970s grab at me in a peculiar way...I'm sure because I was in that age range at that time. And I remember that I rarely thought of this kind of danger "out there" ... .

(Somehow this case reminds me a little of Carlene Tengelsen, missing from Macon, GA in 1972. Of course, in Carlene's case, remains were not found. But she was near the same age --she was 16-- and on her first solo drive and was scheduled to pick up her younger sister shortly when she disappeared. I think the sister-link is what reminds me of her case -- you know those younger sisters had to be so deeply affected!)

*ETA: Never mind this part -- just went back to the link and I see that the sketch is included in the little gallery there.

Is there any other information out on this case? I saw they were trying to line up with the fbi to see what they had since Hancock’s files were washed away but would love to find more info to dive into. Looking into this case and the cases seemingly connected to it. Any help is appreciated! Also trying to find a picture of robin coultas Rodriguez but can only find one of her car.
