Mary Ann Favre, 15, left home on her bicycle to take her 7-year-old sister to school April 22, 1974, and disappeared. The Bay St. Louis teen's skeletal remains were found nine months later. Her killer has escaped justice for 40 years...
The Sheriff's Office has reopened the cold case and Stewart is rebuilding the case file. Documents and evidence stored at the Sheriff's Office through the years washed away in 2005's Hurricane Katrina. Other law enforcement agencies that helped in the initial investigation have provided copies of documents Stewart is using to try to solve the case.
With no physical evidence in hand, the detective faces additional challenges. Two people who gave a description of a suspicious young man possibly linked to Mary Ann's death are unable to testify. One has died. The other has dementia. Still, Stewart believes the case is solvable.
