Steven Bernier pleaded guilty this past July.

http://www.readingeagle.com/news/article/truck-driver-pleads-guilty-in-crash-that-killed-two-people

Sobbing between words, Steven Bernier apologized Thursday to the families of the two people he killed, saying that he will never forgive himself for falling asleep while driving and causing the crash that claimed their lives.

"I can't begin to explain how sorry I am that this happened," the truck driver said. "I'd gladly give my life for them."

Bernier, a former resident of the 100 block of South Fourth Street in Reading, was led out of a Berks County courtroom to begin serving a 2½- to five-year sentence in state prison.

The 51-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of homicide by vehicle, one count of aggravated assault and 10 counts of reckless endangerment.

As part of a plea deal accepted by Judge M. Theresa Johnson, Berks County Assistant District Attorney Justin D. Bodor agreed to withdraw two charges of involuntary manslaughter and several traffic violations.
