NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are asking for the public's help tracking down a missing man whose car was found torched in North Philadelphia.

69-year-old Vito Maglio was last seen Sunday night at Macaroni's Restaurant Lounge in the 9300 block of Old Bustleton Avenue.

This is sad...they don't bring this case up on the news here in the philly area......not that I have seen since the report of the car found.

It doesn't look good due to his diabetes. Sad....

YESTERDAY marked a week since Vito Maglio, 69, mysteriously disappeared after leaving a restaurant in his Northeast Philly neighborhood, and although investigators and relatives have searched feverishly, a police source said yesterday that no new clues have surfaced.

But things aren't looking good. On Thursday morning, Maglio's car was found - torched - near a field along a seedy stretch of Beechwood Street near Grange Avenue, in East Germantown. Investigators have said they found no indication that Maglio had been in the vehicle when it was burned.

The Red Lion Shopping Plaza is very close to his house. I wonder if anyone checked the surveillance videos there, especially Best Buys and Staples.

Is it odd for the car to get torched three days after whatever happened?

When was Vito reported missing? From what I'm reading, sunday dec 14 about 6 pm?

Also when was he last seen? at the restaurant around 6pm or on Castor ave around 8pm?

The car looked pretty toasted, could they determine if the keys were in it?

When /where was his last cell phone call or ping?

Could they tell if his phone was in the burnt car?

This might not seem relevant, but I'm wondering if Vito was the type of person that liked to collect things especially free stuff?
If he was a picker, the dumpster at the red lion staples is a hotspot and there are a few other good ones there as well.
Unfortunately, I didn't see any cameras back there.

This is looking like the shane montgomery case because of the lack of clues, no apparent reason to disappear, popular, nice guy, the oddity of the few existing clues and the likelihood of an unfortunate conclusion.

This may be coincidence, but there is another missing man in Philadelphia
http://thelostnmissing.blogspot.com/2015/01/endangered-missing-howard-siegel-64.html

they said maybe there was a conflict at home, but he is a few days out now.

This is what I find odd --

Maglio

missing on a saturday
Yukon (suv)

Siegel

Missing on a saturday
Ford Explorer (suv)

It appears that they live 2.8 miles apart. Is that odd, or am I just reading too much into it?

I don't know if they are related or not, but their general profiles are very similar. I would wonder if they have any common hobbies or favorite spots they may visit frequently.
I've noticed lately there seem to be a lot of missing people, particularly men, in Pennsylvania. Like an epidemic.

Vito Maglio's black GMC Yukon was found burning on a rough-and-tumble East Germantown block on Dec. 18. Days after Christmas, crime-scene investigators scoured the charred remains of the SUV and found a pool of blood under the driver's seat and a bullet casing. Arson experts determined that an accelerant had been used to torch the SUV...

Maglio, who once worked as a security guard at the Naval Support Activity base in Lawncrest, had a permit to carry a gun, and always had his gun with him, relatives said. "He had a superstition that if he didn't carry his gun, something would happen to him," said Vito Maglio Jr., 35.

The family fears that the 5-foot-5 grandfather was carjacked, or that his penchant for random acts of kindness backfired.

Is it odd for the car to get torched three days after whatever happened?
I agree 3 days later and the car gets torched.. I would think kids would torch it right away. I have to check the weather for the days before. perhaps he was alive up until the car got torched , Maybe they were trying to get money out of him? With diabetes he could have been ok for a little while without meds, then when it became clear that wasn't going to happen he was disposed of?? I'm just thinking out loud here. But SOMEONE had to have seen the suv. It's like we all need re education on paying attention to the people and thing that are happening around us.. I pray this family gets justice, he sounds like a wonderful man.

I wonder what year his SUV was. I don't see that listed.

Rest in peace sir...
