Muhammad Ali 'on life support and barely breathing' as family gathers at his bedside

Muhammad Ali’s family was gathered at his bedside on Friday night as reports in the US stated he was on life support and "barely breathing".

The 74-year-old was taken to hospital in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday to be treated for a respiratory issue.

Bob Gunnell, the family spokesman, said he was in fair condition, and a brief hospital stay was expected. On Friday Mr Gunnell said there was no update on his condition, but two family sources told AP that his condition was more serious than in previous hospital stays.

He is brilliant. And I love what he had to say about war.

I hope he drifts off peacefully and very soon. He has been chained to the difficult physical situation for too long already. I bet his loved one's even wish him well on his journey. :candle:

Yup. Hero. Courage and brains!

Now that he has paid the price with his body and his mind, I wish he could have done something less dangerous.

Lol. I doubt Vietnam would have been a nicer and safer setting for him.

In all honesty. He would be okay right now if Don King and other leeches didn't steal his money from all his big fights.

Everybody got filthy rich except for him.

So they financially forced him to carry on while risking more damage to the brain. Jmo.

Many Twitter reports that his family is by his side and it doesn't look good.

Muhammad Ali remained hospitalized Friday in the Phoenix area, battling respiratory problems serious enough to draw family members to his bedside.

The 74-year-old boxing great's respiratory issues have been complicated by the Parkinson's that he was diagnosed with in the 1980s, two people told The Associated Press a day earlier.

The two spoke separately in describing Ali's condition as being very concerning to family members. They declined to be identified because they were not speaking on behalf of the family...
