A 58-year-old Queensland woman has been charged with four counts of attempted murder and with interfering with a corpse as police investigate the homicides of two children and a fire involving two others.
The woman was charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of arson in relation to a fire at a house at Morayfield, north of Brisbane, in February.
It is alleged two boys, aged nine and 11, were deliberately trapped in the fire.
The boys managed to escape, but one suffered burns to his lower limbs.
The woman has also been charged with one count of interfering with a corpse in relation to the death of a seven-month-old infant from the same family in September.
She is still assisting police with their investigations into the alleged homicide of the infant, as well as the baby's three-year-old sibling in July 2013.
Each of the incidents took place on the 27th day of the month.

This woman is pure evil.

Oh my god. I don't even know what to say. Why?!? [emoji24][emoji24] rip to the poor little ones who died at the hands of this monster and imagine the surviving kids knowing their grandmother who was supposed to be caring for them was trying to kill them.

What a disgusting evil woman. Hope she rots in jail [emoji35]

Just read the part about the incidents all taking place on the same date each month. What the hell??

It never said how the 3-year-old died. I'm guessing this '"grand mother" wasn't suspected of the first two deaths or she wouldn't be caring for the boys. One would hope. Where are the parents? How devastating. Rest in peace little ones. I hope the boys can emotionally recover. :(

Queensland grandmother allegedly tried to suffocate 11-year-old step-grandson twice before setting his bedroom alight: court

A Queensland grandmother will remain behind bars after a court heard allegations she attempted to murder two of her grandchildren.
The court heard on two separate occasions she allegedly tried to smother the 11-year-old boy, once with a tea towel and a second time with a pillow.

Police consider appeal as grandmother charged with four counts of attempted murder is granted bail

January 07, 2015 12:00AM

POLICE have consulted lawyers about appealing a magistrate’s decision to grant bail to a grandmother accused of trying to kill two children in a house fire and trying to smother one while he slept.

The Courier-Mail has been told police have met with the Queensland Police Service legal unit about the “disappointing” decision to give bail to the Morayfield “house of horrors” grandmother.

The charge of interfering with a corpse relates to the death of the seven-month-old at the house last year.
Police allege the grandmother moved the boy from where he died and told family to lie about where he died.

Magistrate Bernadette Callaghan on Monday granted bail to the 58-year-old charged with four counts of attempted murder, attempted arson and interfering with a corpse pending the woman finding a suitable place to live.

“Don’t make it too difficult for this woman to live her life,” she said to the police prosecutor in court.

The magistrate has previously been criticised by police for leniency.

‘House of horrors’ gran remains in jail a week after being granted bail

January 12, 2015 12:00AM

THE “house of horrors” grandmother is still in prison a week after being granted bail, because she is yet to find a suitable place to live.

Controversial magistrate Bernadette Callaghan granted the 58-year-old woman bail last Monday but said she must remain behind bars until she could find a place to live where she would have no contact with children.

The Courier-Mail understands the woman has been unable to find a place to live where there are no children.

First, a three-year-old child died on July 27, 2013. It was treated as a case of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) but now investigators suspect murder.

Then, there was a fire on February 27, 2014…

Finally, a seven-month-old baby died on September 27, 2014. Initially, the death was not treated as suspicious but investigators now suspect murder.

Morayfield house of horrors required "comprehensive investigation"

Police are investigating whether there is a reason why the crimes all occurred on the 27th of the month, Supt Hansen said.

'It's a matter being investigated,' he said, although he ruled out any religious or cult links to the crimes.

November 2015:

a committal hearing for the children’s grandmother took an bizarre turn when a relative giving evidence was ordered from court after she confessed to smoking ice. Another witness gave different evidence from what he originally told investigators about an alleged murder attempt…

Defence lawyer Michael Bosscher asked the woman, a relative of the children’s mother, if she had taken any medication in the last 24 hours. He was initially told it was “none of your business” about what it was but eventually admitted it was the drug “ice”...

Police interviewed a 17-year-old relative who allegedly said the boy told him the woman tried to suffocate him.

But in her evidence at the two-day committal hearing at Caboolture Magistrates Court she denied that was correct.

“Are you sure he said she tried to kill him?” Mr Bosscher asked.

“He said dreamt,” the teenager replied.

“Your evidence is he dreamt [the woman] tried to kill him?” Mr Bosscher asked.

“Yeah,” the teenager replied, reported the ABC…

In relation to the seven month-old’s death, on September 27, 2014, police say the grandmother was alone with him in her bedroom when he died and allege she moved his body to another room before telling other adults in the house to lie to police about him being in her room.

While police have investigated the circumstances around the deaths of the three-year-old and seven-month old she hasn’t been charged in relation to their deaths.
