Nadine was found dead in a Cardiff Hotel room. She had arrived at the hotel on Dec 30 a few hours after Almahri with whom she had been friends for about 3 years - presumably a long distant friendship as he is a US citizen and resident. Almahri usually lives in New York where they are reported to have met.

Almahri left the hotel at 3am on Dec 31 and Nadine's body was found later that day - by which time he had already flown out of the UK to Bahrain.

He is described as dangerous and very resourceful with access to funds which may help him to evade capture. Police think he may now be in Tanzania.

Detective Superintendent Paul Hurley appealed for the public's help to find the suspect and said: “I consider this man to be a dangerous individual and would advise that any knowledge of his location or sightings of him are reported immediately to the authorities - and he is not to be approached.”

They mention him having distinctive facial injuries - having looked at his photo in the link below, I can't see what they mean (unless that is a scar going from the bridge of his nose underneath his left eye)

Actually, looks like he does have a bad scar across his nose and going through his eyebrow too - you can see a gap there.

American businessman Sammy Almahri, 44, had been due to be tried before a jury at Cardiff Crown Court in October... But on Wednesday the trial date was vacated by Recorder of Cardiff Judge Eleri Rees and a new date fixed for January 12, 2016.

Almahri was not at the short hearing but was represented by John Charles Rees QC who told the court his client may require an Arabic interpreter to be in the dock with him when his trial takes place.

Nadine Aburas hotel murder: Sammy Almahri given life term

An American man who murdered a Cardiff woman in a hotel before fleeing to Africa has been given a life sentence and must serve at least 17 years.

Sentencing Almahri at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday, Judge Nicola Davies told him the killing was "prompted by jealousy and anger".

She added: "In taking the life of this 28-year-old woman you have deprived her family of a beautiful, loving daughter, sister and aunt.

"Your actions will impact on Nadine's family for the rest of their lives. Their loss is immeasurable."

Prosecutor Roger Thomas QC said an aggravating factor of the case was when Almahri appeared to tell police Ms Aburas had killed herself because of the terrible life she had led.

Almahri had "longstanding, maladapted patterns of behaviour", was cold and callous and may have derived gratification from the killing, according to a psychiatric report.

He also showed signs of dissocial personality disorder and it was likely he was jealous and possessive in the couple's relationship.

In a statement read to the court, Ms Aburas's mother Andrea Aburas said: "No-one has really asked who Nadine was. She was a sister to six and an aunt to nine. Nadine was a ray of sunshine to everyone in her life.

"There is a huge void left in all our lives and she can never be replaced. She was very talented to the point we were in awe of her.

"Nadine won over the hearts of everyone she met daily.

"I couldn't bear to think what must have even going through her mind when he took her life.

"We allowed him [Almahri] to come into our family and he took our child. He made us wait two years to grieve for our child. He has destroyed us."

Sammy Almahri admits Nadine Aburas Cardiff hotel murder - October 20, 2016

Sammy Almahri, 45, pleaded guilty to murdering Nadine Aburas, 28, at the Future Inn on New Year's Eve 2014.

He initially admitted manslaughter but denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility, but changed his plea at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday.

The court heard he killed her because the "voice of God" told him to.

Following the plea, Ms Aburas's mother Andrea said: "Justice has been done for Nadine, the right verdict has been returned.

"We wish to thank everyone who has assisted us throughout this tragic period in our lives. We ask now that we are given time to grieve and remember our beautiful girl."
