Kelly Mae Myers of Grand Junction is listed by the Mesa County Sheriff's Office as missing. According to her mother, Kim Lee of Grand Junction, Kelly has been involved with drugs in the past and has a warrant out for failure to appear in court. Her mother tells us Kelly was last seen by her father and grandmother on December 18th.

Other sources have told Kelly's family the young woman was last seen at a truck stop near Fruita.

Mesa County, Colo. -- On Saturday, the remains of Kelly Mae Myers, 18, of Grand Junction, were recovered in the Cactus Park area of Mesa County, by investigators and the Mesa County Coroner's staff. Kelly was previously reported missing in late December 2014, by her family.

Benjamin said the Sheriff’s Office received a number of tips in the case and investigators followed up on them. Benjamin could not say what led investigators to recover her body or whether an arrest is pending.

The body of a missing Colorado teen was found in a far-flung corner of Mesa County on Saturday, according to authorities, who have deemed the death suspicious.

Kelly Mae Myers, 18, was discovered in Cactus Park, a “remote” recreational area where locals go to hike and camp, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Grand Junction woman was reported missing a couple weeks after her family last heard from her on Dec. 18, spokeswoman Heather Benjamin said.

There is no known cause of death yet, the Mesa County Coroner’s Office said, and details about where the body was specifically found and its condition upon discovery were not disclosed Tuesday.

Authorities are investigating the case, Benjamin said.

Police believe an 18-year-old woman found dead in Colorado last month died in a West Valley hotel room.

The body of Kelly Myers, of Grand Junction, was discovered Feb. 28 at the Cactus Park hiking area, about 22 miles from Myers' hometown and 300 miles from where police believe she died.

"A further, forensic examination of the room where Myers stayed revealed evidence that Myers likely died in that hotel room," West Valley police said in a statement.

Police in Utah are taking over the investigation into the death of an 18-year-old Grand Junction woman whose remains were found in western Colorado.

The West Valley City Police Department in Utah says social media accounts and other evidence show Kelly Mae Myers was staying at, and likely died in, a hotel in the city, a suburb of Salt Lake City.

Her remains were recovered Feb. 28 in Cactus Park, a recreation area south of Grand Junction on the Uncompahgre (uhn-kuhm-PAH'-gray) Plateau. Myers had been missing since December.

Her mother, Kim Lee, told KKCO-TV in Grand Junction in January that her daughter had been involved with drugs in the past and that there was a warrant for her arrest for failing to appear in court when she disappeared.
