Attacker Amedy Coulibaly, 32, rented the small house south of Paris in the suburb of Gentilly about two weeks ago, and a search by detectives from the Paris Criminal Brigade and a special police anti-terrorism unit resulted in the seizure of a scooter that allowed them to identity the new potential accomplice, according to Le Parisein.

Spanish officials investigating an alleged terrorist cell that supported the Paris attacks found evidence that Coulibaly stayed in Madrid from December 30 to January 2 , according to the Catalan daily La Vanguardia.

Coulibaly was accompanied by an unidentified person, the newspaper reported, noting that Turkish officials have confirmed that his girlfriend passed through Madrid at the same time.

I think this will be followed quickly by the Légion d'honneur ..........

Excellent lengthy article, from 2002.

"Benevolence inflames the anger of the young men of the cités as much as repression, because their rage is inseparable from their being. Ambulance men who take away a young man injured in an incident routinely find themselves surrounded by the man’s “friends,” and jostled, jeered at, and threatened: behavior that, according to one doctor I met, continues right into the hospital, even as the friends demand that their associate should be treated at once, before others.

Of course, they also expect him to be treated as well as anyone else, and in this expectation they reveal the bad faith, or at least ambivalence, of their stance toward the society around them. They are certainly not poor, at least by the standards of all previously existing societies: they are not hungry; they have cell phones, cars, and many other appurtenances of modernity; they are dressed fashionably—according to their own fashion—with a uniform disdain of bourgeois propriety and with gold chains round their necks. They believe they have rights, and they know they will receive medical treatment, however they behave. They enjoy a far higher standard of living (or consumption) than they would in the countries of their parents’ or grandparents’ origin, even if they labored there 14 hours a day to the maximum of their capacity.

But this is not a cause of gratitude—on the contrary: they feel it as an insult or a wound, even as they take it for granted as their due. But like all human beings, they want the respect and approval of others, even—or rather especially—of the people who carelessly toss them the crumbs of Western prosperity. Emasculating dependence is never a happy state, and no dependence is more absolute, more total, than that of most of the inhabitants of the cités. They therefore come to believe in the malevolence of those who maintain them in their limbo: and they want to keep alive the belief in this perfect malevolence, for it gives meaning—the only possible meaning—to their stunted lives. It is better to be opposed by an enemy than to be adrift in meaninglessness, for the simulacrum of an enemy lends purpose to actions whose nihilism would otherwise be self-evident."

I hope they have lots of security there.

BS. Maybe these "emasculated" youths should get an ordinary job or volunteer at something worthwhile, maybe back in their country of origin.

This is not a unique excuse. Many who CHOOSE not to take personal responsibility for their own well being, education, their lives, CHOOSE to put the blame on everyone else, ie, OTHERS are "maintaining them in their limbo".
WORK. Get an education, get some training, get a job, become personally responsible for your condition.
All the tools are available. And YES, this does mean you will have to become a part of the system in which you live, and interact in a cooperative way with people who may have beliefs that are not the same as yours.

I am so sick an tired of this excuse.

Could these raids in Belgium be connected to the arrest of the arms dealer who supplied the Paris killers?

BELGIAN FEDERAL PROSECUTOR CONFIRMS RAIDS, SUSPECTS

HLN.BE Liveblog:

The federal prosecutor's office confirms that the suspects shot dead in Verviers wanted to commit a "serious attack" in Belgium, but does not go into detail.

"During a search in Verviers the suspects immediately opened fire with automatic weapons and weapons of war before they could be neutralized," the prosecutor said. "They were about to commit a major terrorist attack in Belgium."

The prosecutor further confirms that a dozen raids in the districts of Verviers, Brussels and Halle-Vilvoorde took place "in the context of a case to the federal prosecutor specializing in terrorism." The raids are part of an operation into a cell of persons who returned from Syria, confirms the prosecutor.

Could these raids in Belgium be connected to the arrest of the arms dealer who supplied the Paris killers?

Apparently, they are not.
The lawyer of the person who is suspected of providing the arms, claims that his client is not an arms dealer but a simple small crook who sold a car that belonged to Hayat Boumedienne.
He went to the police to tell this, and when his house was searched, weapons and documents were found. Not a very smart action on his part IMHO.

HLN LIVEBLOG, 5 minuters ago:

According to the Belgian prosecutor, the Special Anti-terror forces have been working on the case of these returned Jihadis for a considerable time.
There is NO DIRECT LINK WITH PARIS

Translation:

According to the prosecutor there is no direct connection with the attacks in Paris.
"Police have been preparing this action for weeks,
" a spokesman for the federal prosecutor said.
This started well before the attack on Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish supermarket in Paris.

"The dossier was gaining momentum in the last weeks," he says. The terrorists were about to commit a major assault, it was heard earlier. "The targets of the attacks were police officers or police buildings."

PART OF A LARGER POLICE ACTION?

HLN.BE Liveblog:
http://www.hln.be/hln/nl/32542/Aans...den-na-grote-antiterreuractie-in-Belgie.dhtml

Translation:

At the end of the press conference, the prosecutor still has not confirmed or denied, whether the police action of today is or is not part of an international police offensive against terrorism.

According to VTM News today's action alledgedly is part of a larger offensive that was extended as far as Yemen. The reason why the prosecutor made no mention of this, is because there may still actions going on abroad.

BREAKING;

According to Press Agency Belga, a second armed intervention is underway in Verviers, not so far from the place where the first raid ended fatally.
Rue du Palais is closed to traffic, according to eyewitnesses.

Oh!

According to reporters of RTL-Nieuws on twitter, many people in the neighbourhood near the railway station of Verviers are not surprised at all:
There are more Jihadis here ...

:gaah:

If the man suspected of selling arms to the Paris killer was not an arms dealer, why did he have weapons and documents related to the arms sale in his house?
