"An elderly Michigan man says he just met the son he never knew existed after he discovered a letter his late wife had hidden from him for 56 years.

Tony Trapani, 81, found the letter, sent by his child's mother in 1959, hidden in a filing cabinet after his wife died, reports Fox 17."

Wow, happy and sad all at the same time!

I wonder why his wife never told him, that must hurt.

Guessing that she felt insecure since she could not have children.

"Trapani found the letter last year while cleaning out his deceased wife's filing cabinets. He believes she purposely hid the letter even though they were unable to conceive.

Holding back tears, Trapani told Fox17: "Why my wife didn't tell me, I don't know. She wanted children. She tried and tried."

"He's my full son that I've had my whole life, but why my wife hid that letter is beyond me."

Must be. What a secret to carry though!

I hope they manage to have some sort of relationship before dear old Trapani joins his wife....

One can understand the wife feeling jealous, but it does seem remarkably selfish to deprive both father and son of a relationship for so many years. moo.

either the bio mom received a letter from the late wife or bio mom ''assumed'' no reply meant not interested moo

"Childress said his mother told him his father received the letter, but didn't want to be a part of his life."

late wife was jealous and possibly greedy didn't want to share estate MOO & IME

most important point on the $$ would be she didn't want him to get ''stung'' for child support (letter was dated 1959 so son would have been little)

Son looks a lot like dad!

I cannot imagine finding out my spouse had with-held something so important. The poor fellow's whole life has been a lie. Wicked woman!

If that wife really wanted childen, she shoud have handed over the letter. She would have had a chid in her life and then had grandchildren. Instead she dies totally childless and worse, she kept the father and son apart for decades.

Guess it depends if the child had been conceived before their marriage. If not, I would not have had any issues denying a cheating husband the chance to meet his son.
