The body of Sharon Ward, who was 17, was found on Sunday, Feb. 28, 1982, about 20 feet from the edge of Jacobs Road, near Wynn Road, in Oregon. She died of blunt-force trauma, officials said.
She was last seen alive at about 10 p.m. the night before, leaving a North Toledo garage, according to police. She was believed to be heading home to Poplar Street in East Toledo.

"She was dumped in a field and had been struck in the head multiple times and had her wrists slit," said Detective Sgt. Kelly Thibert of the Oregon Police Department.
Detectives at the time were never able to close the case, and Ward's killer is still at large. Police decided to take another look at the case after communicating with Ward's friend Karen Jones on Facebook. "Right now, we're in the process of collecting all the evidence that does exist. Some of it is at different agencies," Sgt. Thibert said. But that's only part of the puzzle.
"We're hoping that people who knew stuff back then, who may have been reluctant to come forward, come forward [now]," she said.
