AL AL - Gary Baskins, 25, & Kayla Glover, 23, Muscle Shoals, 24 Jan 2015

Kayla Glover, 23, and Gary Baskins, 25, were found dead at Jody's restaurant in Colbert County early Saturday morning, according to Muscle Shoals Police.

The call came in around 2:20 am. When officers arrived they found Baskins dead in the passengers seat. Glover's body was found out of the car in the parking lot. Both died of gunshot wounds.

Police are now investigating the deaths as a double homicide.

Friends of both the victims say they saw the two together shortly before the shooting.

“She came up and hugged me,” said Simone Davidson, long time friend of Glover, “and she seemed very upspirited like she always is”...

No word yet of a relationship between the victims or a motive.

Muscle Shoals police say the shooting happened around 2:00 am at at Jody's Restaurant on Highway 20. Some people were in the restaurant at the time but did not hear any gunshots...

Police say they have received some tips and are chasing down leads but still have no motive or person of interest in the slaying...

Police say they have collected some evidence from the scene and it's being processed. The autopsy results are not in yet on either of the victims.

Sherry Howard says Kayla was at Jody's on Highway 20 that night, because she gave her friend, 25-year-old Gary Baskins, a ride home. The two had known each other since middle school, and Kayla was just the kind of person willing to help a friend in need.

"Kayla, being the person with the big heart that she is, came home a little after one and told her little brother, 'I've got to go take a friend home, I'll be back in a little bit' and never made it back," said Howard...

People were inside the restaurant at the time, and a highway just feet away. The case is not solved, not arrests have been made, and few people have come forward with leads.

It's been almost two months since Kayla Glover and Gary Baskins were gunned down in the parking lot at Jody's Restaurant in the Shoals. So far, no person of interest in the shooting has been identified...

Kayla's family and friends are holding a benefit concert to raise money for the two children she left behind. The concert is named "Playing for Angels" and features at least ten local bands. It will be held March 21st at the Shoals Theater in Florence.

Despite the lack of physical evidence from the scene. the Muscle Shoals Police Chief says his department won’t stop until the killer is behind bars.

“nobody deserves to have their life ended this way,” said Chief Robert Evans, Muscle Shoals Police Department, ““the main challenge we’re looking at now it the absence of any eyewitness accounts of the incident.”

Investigators say there were customers inside the diner, but no one claims to have seen or heard anything that could link a possible shooter to the crime.

“We want to be able to give the family some closure and more than anything bring the people that were responsible to justice.”

It's a double homicide that rocked the Shoals two years ago and still does.

23-year-old Kayla Glover and 25-year-old Gary Wayne Baskins were gunned down outside of Jody's Restaurant in Muscle Shoals in 2015, to this day no arrests have been made.

For Kayla Glover's family, they too still have a hole in their hearts.

"It's been a living hell, nothing short of a nightmare," said Kayla Glover's father, Hal Howard.

Kayla was a mother of two, a wife, and amazing daughter, said the Howards.

"There will never be complete healing and the pain will definitely never go away," said Sherry Howard, Kayla's mother.

The Howards say they have tried to be strong for Kayla's little girls, who are too young to fully grasp what has happened but old enough to realize their mommy isn't here.

"Nobody should have to come to mommy's resting place, as the girls call it," said Sherry.

The pain of losing Kayla is still sometimes too much to bear, according to her mom. They are hoping this year someone will come forward with information to help solve this case, and not only bring some peace to their family, but also to the Baskins family as well.

"Please come forward. Please give us some closure," said Kayla's mom, Sherry Howard. "Please help my granddaughters get some closure. You have no idea what it feels like to have someone ask you to dig up their mommy."
