I am still in tears (happy) about this story. Didn't see it posted anywhere so I wanted to share this wonderful story. We needed a story like this right now.
This man is an inspiration to me and so are all the beautiful people that reached out to help him. :)

More than $230,000 pours into car fund for dedicated factory worker who trudges 21 miles to work every day on foot

Americans touched by images of Robertson battling through the snow on his daily reached for their wallets to help out the dedicated worker, whose intimidating commute never stops him making it in for his $10.55-an-hour wage.

Robertson, who lives 23 miles from his job, and has worked 2pm-10pm shift for the past 12 years, never missing a shift.
As only part of his journey is covered by bus routes, he puts in 21 of the 46-miles round trip on foot.
He walks eight on his way in way in, while on the way home he faces a 13-mile trek, since some services have finished.
However, the punishing, all-weather hikes now look like a thing of the past for Robertson, whose surging total on a <snipped by me TOS> donations page passed $230,000 Tuesday evening.

Could this be a scam? Sounds pretty unbelievable.

'If only my parents could see me now': Touching moment dedicated factory worker who trudged 21 miles to work every day on foot breaks down in tears as he's gifted a brand new Ford Taurus

The unexpected gift is the latest in an outpouring of donations from supporters across the globe who, touched by James Robertson's plight, have raised more than $310,000 to help him buy a car

Robertson has told the Detroit Free Press that his car broke down a decade ago and, making $10.55 an hour, he has been unable to save for a new one

Robertson thought he was going to look at cars to purchase with Evan Leedy and Blake Pollock, who both helped coordinate the gift, worth an estimated $37,000

Ok, I'll be the mean person. First, why in the name of everything holy didn't the guy just find a place closer to work? Makes no sense to live so far from work, with few commuting options when moving would be a solution. Just wondering.
Also, why would people continue to give money far past the obvious need? I mean, it was a great gesture but it went from helping a guy out to making him a lottery winner. I just don't get it. I'll be the first to help someone in need but when I went to the page and saw over $100,000.00 at that time I figured the need was over. There are a lot of needy people out there and this guy got more then his share while there may be a dozen or more just as needy who get nothing.
I know I sound like a b* but I just don't get pouring more money into a situation that was obviously well taken care of. People are very good and kind but sometimes I wonder about using common sense. He had a need, it was met, now find others who also have a need.
I guess I would have felt better about the situation had I seen one word from him about using the extra money to help others out. All I read is how it would help his situation and medical and dental, etc. Not a word about helping others.

When you give money, you lose control over what happens to it. After he uses the money to buy the vehicle, pay the insurance as much into the future as you can, start an emergency fund or savings account, I am sure he knows many others with needs, and will use the money for good. At least that is what I choose to believe. Things happen, bad and good, large and small, for reasons we mere mortals cannot understand. You just have to trust in God, karma, whatever it is that gets you through the night.
This has probably been a very overwhelming time in his life. Not being accustomed to speaking publicly, he may not feel adequate to put his feelings, plans, and gratitude out there. But that does not mean he is not feeling these emotions, making plans, or praying for guidance as to what the next right thing to do may be.

Man, who received $350,000 because he walks 21 miles to work each day, is forced to MOVE after death threats over windfall

Detroit factory worker James Robertson, 56, has walked a 21 mile round trip from home to work every day for the past ten years

His story captured people's attention earlier this month and an online campaign raised $350,000 and he received a 2015 red Ford Taurus

On Tuesday Robertson left the rooming house that he has called home for the past 15 years after people asked him for money

Robertson told police that he no longer felt safe living in the neighborhood

His old home belonged to his girlfriend Tanya Fox, 60. She claims they are still together but she doesn't know where he has moved to

:( May his new home be a source of safety and comfort for him. I wish the very best for his man.

Great story~ Also, here's a couple quotes from James in the linked story.

"I have to be careful how I act about this — the same God who brings you all these blessings can take them away, but hopefully I'm ready for what happens," Robertson said.
"I've seen what happens when people get money. My dad, God rest his soul, he still influences me. He's not going to let me get haughty."

Sad twist:

Ex-girlfriend of Detroit man who used to walk 21 miles to work everyday demands cut of the $350,000 that strangers gifted him

James Robertson, 56, used to walk eight hours to get to his $10.55/hour job

The hard worker was gifted a new car, and $360,000 in a crowd-funding campaign

He has since had to take out a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend and former landlady Tanya Fox, 60

Fox allegedly has been harassing Robertson for a cut of his new money
