One caller said John Doe No. 1 is her father.

Another described him as a "fitness nut" and said he worked, and worked out, with him in Selma, Ala., 10 years ago.

Grady Health System received those tips and several more about three long-term patients who were profiled in Sunday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Officials planned to continue investigating leads today. Calls started coming in around noon Sunday, said Grady spokeswoman Denise Simpson. Some people said they were past acquaintances or said they recognized the men's photos or circumstances. http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metro/atlanta/0805/01johndoe.html

Arrangements have not yet been finalized on reuniting a longtime Grady Health System nursing home patient with his family in Guatemala.

Money, however, is being raised to get him there. Grady has set up a fund at Wachovia Bank for Jose Osorio Barrias, who has been in the public health system's care for more than two years.

Relatives were located in eastern Guatemala on Aug. 12. His mother and sister came forward after The Atlanta Journal-Constitution published stories on three unidentified long-term Grady patients whose next of kin couldn't be found.

Articles on Osorio Barrias, known as John Doe No. 2 by the Grady staff, subsequently ran in the Georgia Latino News and Prensa Libre, a daily newspaper out of Guatemala City. Neighbors of Jose's family in Puerto Barrios showed the article to his sister, Catalina, who recognized her older brother's face in a photograph.

The family had not heard from him in 10 years and presumed he was dead.He had entered the United States illegally 17 years ago, Catalina Osorio Barrias said.
