Yvonne Katherina Belcher

[...]
Belcher vanished after walking down a dark residential street about 2:30 a.m. following an argument with Andy Owens. Theirs was a volatile marriage. Both previously had been arrested on illegal drug and alcohol charges. Also known as Yvonne Owens or Yvonne Weiss, she worked as an exotic dancer at a Jacksonville club.

Andy Owens also had been arrested in March 2000 for beating her. He waited until Christmas Eve before reporting her missing, and told police she had left him in the past only to return a couple days later.

After she was reported missing, an acquaintance told police Belcher had asked him to take her to a neighborhood near Vermont Street and wait for her while she went inside. He left after waiting a few minutes. Another acquaintance told police he saw her about daybreak walking down Vermont toward Florida 16.

That appears to be the last known time anyone saw Belcher.

Belcher is 5-foot-1, about 100 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes. She has tattoo of a dagger on her right breast and a tattoo of a heart on her right ankle. When she left home, she was wearing blue jeans and a gray and black Jaguars sweater, police have said.

“Some day, somewhere, somehow, we’ll get to the bottom of it,” Musco said of the continuing effort to solve the mystery of her disappearance.

''GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — Yvonne Belcher’s family remembers her as an artist.
They hold tightly to her sketches and notes she wrote her daughter, a woman who loved to draw, write poems and stories. But in her own story, the ending is unclear.
"We have waited for 22 years, I just have this one wish," tells Belcher's mother, Christa Powell. "That before I die, I can bury my daughter."

''Recently, Det. Camp says a new suspect has come to light, but they don’t want to release more details about who he is just yet. But they do say, they believe there are people alive that could have information critical to this case and they don’t want them to fear coming forward even if they were involved in criminal activity decades ago.
"We can assure them, we don’t care if you were involved in drugs 20 years ago. We are trying to solve a homicide," he says. ''

She would not be easily seen at daybreak wearing dark clothing unless one knew to look for her. The known associates don't sound like upstanding citizens of the community. More like the drug trade circle, who could find someone to do something you didn't want to do yourself, for a fee. JMO

Vermont runs south into a large undeveloped green space with canals.
Vermont runs north into a park along Governors Creek, which runs into the St Johns River.
That is lot of water but it was dry season and cold in Dec. The creek and canals would have begun to recede for the winter after hurricane season ended.
