Internet children crimes unit takes financial roller coaster ride
http://www.heartlandconnection.com/news/story.aspx?id=1164895#.VOULpPnF9p8KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It has been a roller coaster ride for the Kirksville Regional Computer Crimes Unit, or KRCCU. The unit received funding, had that funding withheld, shut down, and now has reopened.
One question many people have is why a program that protects our children was shut down in the first place. Parents also want to know what they can do to ensure their children dont become victims of online sexual predators.
The KRCCU is one of 13 task forces in Missouri that combat internet crimes against children.
In the past two years, KRCCU has made 22 arrests of sexual predators, executed 40 search warrants, and conducted several community presentations on internet safety.
Special Det. Steve Feeneys job is to use his skill set and forensic equipment to seek out and take down online sexual predators.
