A Florida woman has been arrested after a middle school child turned up to class last Friday with belt marks on her body and a T-shirt scrawled with messages about her poor, F grades. Also about the 'woopin' she got.

30-year-old Melany Joyce Alexander of the Tampa Bay area was charged with abuse and cruelty to a child. Her relationship to the child has not been revealed.

Note how Alexander spelled 'allowed' as 'aloud' on the shirt.

I hate reading about these cases, such as some a year or two ago in Georgia, where young people are beaten and whipped for bad grades. (I'm sure most of those kids are abused at other times, too, by the parents, so of course it's not really just about the grades, but it's just sad to see it even offered as an excuse.)

I just don't understand how humiliating a child will cure them of their "problem". How about positive reinforcement and encouragement?
