Chance Ross
SULPHUR SPRINGS, TX (KLTV) - The brother of a Sulfur Springs inmate who died while in police custody said he does not condone his brother's actions that led to his arrest, but he does not think his brother's death was natural.

Chad Ross and other Ross family members were shown video footage by the Hopkins Sheriff's Office from a jail camera that showed his brother being booked and placed in a padded cell. Chad said that his 34-year-old brother was handcuffed at the time of the booking and did not appear to be resisting....

Justice for Chance Ross & his Family
By lindee1 | Posted April 22, 2015 | Sulphur Springs, Texas 0

On March 7th 2015, a young man's life was taken. Family members and concerned citizens are waiting for a response from the Sulphur Springs Police Department, and Hopkins County 's Office. All lives matter. Chance Ross's life mattered. The community of Sulphur Springs, and outside of Sulphur Springs want to know why the three officers involved are still on duty? Why aren't they on leave? Is the death of this young man being envestigated? Is it being reported? The officers involved, on video, and the other three that joined them, they all witnessed the abuse, possibly participated in the abuse that lead to this young man's death. Where is the video, the audio of this horrific event that took place in Sulphur Springs jail on March 7th 2015? This young man died while in the hands of police officers. What should have happened didn't happen. This young man was tortured, this young man suffered inhumanly in Sulphur Springs jail. Chance Ross was handcuffed, and suffering from a brutal beating. He was tased repeatedly. He begged for officers to stop. This crime from police officers must stop. What happened on March 7th 2015 in Sulphur Springs TX by police officers involved was no different than a group of no good ****s up to any good. Officers involved in this man's death should be punished. Instead they are still on duty as if the story will be swept under the rug. Officers like these that were involved the night Chance Ross was killed by torture are the kind that give good cops a bad name. They make good cops job's much harder.

Mind boggling. What is up with all the misuse of tasers by LE in the last few years. Here's another example, well several from the San Bernardino Sheriff's Office

In Ross's case, I'm curious to know if he was tasered more than once, but why taser him at all if he was in handcuffs?

Well here is the recent update on my Brother Chance's case. We have received a copy of the autopsy and he had 15 separate burn marks from being tased. All over his body from his hands, neck, shoulders and all in between, and the cause of death is HOMICIDE!....Now my question is how does a person get tased 15 times and it not be considered against policy? From some research I know tasing to the neck has been banned....So now its supposed to go to the Grand Jury, but we were told they don't know when that will be because there is no set time for when the Grand Jury meets, that just doesn't seem right either?...and I just don't know how all the eveidence can be presented to a grand jury when I know there more eye witnesses that haven't been spoke to, nor do we feel like its been investigated to the fullest, but when the department that caused all this is investigating themselves what do you expect?

That's horrible... so sorry.

Well I have been being quiet, trying not to ruffle anymore feathers and was hoping and praying the Grand Jury meeting would have a good outcome. Well that was just wishful thinking! They of course No Billed the case and I strongly believe the appointed DA who has defended the police and their actions from the get go persuaded them heavily. The Ranger and the DA presented the evidence at the meeting at the first of the month, and they set this special meeting up for today and wanted us to come down so we could speak to the Jury. Well, as it turns out we got to set in a non air conditioned lobby at the DA's office sweating for 3 hours and they not only made their decision by not hearing any of us speak, nor did they even let the Ranger speak today. This appointed DA was nothing but a smoke screen so our local DA wouldn't have to take the case and be the bad guy.
He told us on our first meeting that there is no scientific proof that tasering kills, and today told us he just believed it was excited delirium that caused my brother to die, and oh yeah the internal injuries that were listed happened from the car he ran in front of bumped him on the street before the police got to him..We should get the full report from the Texas ranger and I am looking forward to what his findings were because if I was betting it gonna be a lot different than the take this special appointed DA had.http://www.myssnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=29614:6-officers-no-billed-by-grand-jury-in-ross-death&catid=93:local-news&Itemid=376

The poor family :(

I hope they pursue a civil lawsuit. I have got to think they have a reasonable shot. They should start speaking to lawyers immediately if they haven't done so already.

Thanks Donna -- yet another case of LEO violence. Rather sickening.

ps - thanks for the update.
