Had a look but couldnt find any posts on this John Doe, never made a topic before so hope this is allowed.

On May 29, 1998, the skeletonized remains of a black male were found by fishermen in the Coosa River in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama. There were multiple bullet wounds to the skull, and stab wounds to the sacrum and right hipbone.
Evidence of burning was also present. He was aged between 17 and 21 at the time of death, and had been 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 inches tall. Although a forensic reconstruction of the skull was performed to aid identification, the jawline is only an approximation as the mandible was never found.
The remaining maxillary teeth showed no evidence of fillings, possibly indicating a lack of dental care when alive. Some of the teeth had been fractured before death, possibly by using them to open a bottle.
One or both hands and one or more limbs were not recovered.

The skeletal remains of a young black male were discovered by men fishing in the Coosa River on May 29, 1998, according to Toni Driskill with the Gadsden Police Crime Scene Unit. Authorities found multiple bullet wounds to the head and stab wounds to the base of his spine and right hip.

His age is estimated between 17 and 21 and he was about 5 feet, 8 inches tall. Scientists created a facial reconstruction but had to approximate his jaw because the mandible was never found. Other limbs were also missing.

[h=1]Body found in 1998 identified as that of missing Kenosha man[/h]
A body found by a fisherman in a river near Gadsden, Ala., in 1998 has been identified as that of a missing Kenosha man, according to a story by Fox affiliate WBRC.

Laytwan Brown, 20, was last seen alive on Mother's Day 1998 near his family's home in Zion, Ill. He had moved to Kenosha shortly before his death, WBRC reported.
At the time, investigators said the body was that of a young black man who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and there was evidence he may have been beaten and burned.

Investigators finally got a break in November 2016 when DNA samples from Brown's parents matched those of the body found in Alabama. A death certificate is still being processed, the TV station said.

ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - His name was Laytwan Brown, but everyone who knew him called him Twan. He was just over six feet tall and handsome, "like a young Michael Jordan," his sister Laytia Brown told me from her home in Wisconsin. Twan was a free spirit, loved to make people laugh and he was trying to change his life when he vanished at age 20. He was last seen alive on Mother's Day, 1998 near his home in Zion, Illinois.
How his body ended up in Gadsden and who killed him remain a mystery. Sgt. Paul Kehrli with Zion Police said the next phase will be a homicide investigation involving multiple agencies, but could not offer many details, including any connections the victim had to Alabama.

"We certainly have some ideas, but I can't get into specifics," Kehrli said. "The factors that led up to it started around our area with people who are in our area."

Zion City is situated in the far northeastern corner of Illinois, 50 miles north of Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan, and less than 10 miles from neighboring Kenosha, Wisconsin. Laytia said shortly before his death, Twan had moved to nearby Kenosha for a change of scene. On the day he disappeared, he had gone to a cousin's house to get his hair braided. Laytia said somebody picked him up, and he was never seen alive again.

RIP Twan :rose:

I pray there is justice done and arrest(s) made soon.

I wonder if Laytawn was killed because of gangs?? Even though they say that he didn't have any known enemies

I actually looked at this profile on doe network last night. I'm glad to see he's been identified. I can see why it took so long to connect the dots, somehow Laytawn ended up far from home. It's interesting that his NAMUS states the time of death to discovery interval being "Months" with Doe Network having it at "Several Months to a Year". But, we now know it was at most 19 days, since Mother's Day was on May 10th in 1998.

right, I was like how was he already skeletal? maybe he was burned over most of his body?
