A baggage handler at Seattle-Tacoma airport was rescued Monday after becoming trapped in the cargo hold of a plane that took off, bound for Los Angeles.
The employee of Menzies Aviation - who hasn't been identified - was loading baggage onto the Alaska Airlines flight Seattle to LA when he apparently fell asleep (his shift had started at 5.00am). His supervisor was aware he'd disappeared but when he received no answer to texts and calls, presumed the worker had gone home.
14 minutes into the flight, the pilot and first class passengers heard frantic banging and yelling from the hold beneath them. The plane turned back and the worker escaped unharmed from the pressurized, temperature-controlled cargo hold. The FAA's investigating.
