Man on the run after woman's body found in car

A womans body found in a car on the NSW far south coast is believed to be that of missing Canberra woman Daniella DAddario.
It is believed the wanted man, who remains on the run, is Josaia (Joey) Vosikata.

The man is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, in his late 20s, with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing dark clothing.

Police have urged anyone who sees the man not to approach him but to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Concerns for missing Canberra pair Daniella D'Addario and Josaia Vosikata

Daniella D'Addario, 35, and Josaia (Joey) Vosikata, 27, were reported missing on Monday after Ms D'Addario's concerned family members could not contact her over the weekend.
The pair were believed to have travelled to the Casuarina Sands area on Sunday before heading to the south coast.

Police check cars at roadblock after woman's body found in car

Police are checking cars at a roadblock outside a NSW south coast town, searching for a man who fled after being discovered with a woman's body.
A roadblock has been set up outside Bermagui, and a police helicopter is scouring the coastline searching for the man.

Close friend Chris Reid said that Ms D’Addario, from Canberra, and Mr Vosikata had been seeing each other for about four months and had a “very tumultuous* relationship”. He said the relationship was “pretty messed-up”.

“When she found out he had a wife and kids in Fiji she left him but then, unbeknown to us the reasons, she got back together with him,” Mr Reid, who has known Ms D’Addario for more than six years, yesterday told The Daily Telegraph.

Josaia Vosikata, 27, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to all four charges against him.

Vosikata is accused of killing Daniela D'Addario, 35, in April. He allegedly placed her body in the boot of a Hyundai Getz and drove to the NSW South Coast, sparking a significant manhunt.

He was detected by a Channel 7 cameraman near Bermagui, who alerted police.

Canberra man Josaia Vosikata has pleaded guilty to murdering his ex-girlfriend Daniela D'Addario, whose body was found in the boot of a car on the New South Wales south coast last year.

In the ACT Supreme Court today, Vosikata pleaded guilty to murder, but not guilty to other charges he faces, including rape and interfering with a dead body.

The court will hold a disputed facts hearing about the other charges later this year.

A horrible crime. . Pleading guilty is hardly commendable. .

In the ACT he can choose to have the disputed facts hearing heard before a judge alone.... I am betting he will do that. ..

New details have emerged of the ordeal Daniela D'Addario, 35, was put through in the weeks before she was strangled by ex-boyfriend Josaia Vosikata, 29, in April 2015...

He regularly sat outside her apartment in Bruce, sent her dozens of text messages and emails and formed a belief she may be pregnant with his child.

Nine days before her murder, Vosikata broke into Ms D'Addario's apartment with a spare key in the early hours of the morning and attempted to sexually assault her, fleeing only when she called police.

Sentencing is scheduled for August.

Canberra man sentenced to more than 22 years' jail for murdering Daniela D'Addario

During sentencing hearings in October, the court was told Vosikata developed an "obsession" with Ms D'Addario, and prosecutors called for a life sentence.

In court today, Justice John Burns found that while Vosikata had contemplated murder in the days before the killing, he did not arrive at the apartment intending to kill Ms D'Addario.

Vosikata was sentenced by Justice Burns to 22 years and 10 months in jail, with a non-parole period of more than 18 years.

Outside court, Ms D'Addario's sister Fiona Knight thanked police and prosecutors for their work, but said she would never forgive Vosikata.

"No sentence that was handed down today will bring my sister back, I'll never be able to forgive this man for the despicable and shameful acts he has committed no matter how remorseful he claims to be," she said.
