A man has been charged with murder after deputies said he led police on a chase that ended in a multivehicle crash in which an innocent 22-year-old woman was killed.

It happened around noon Thursday on Antoine and Fallbrook. According to deputies, Lanice Tobias was driving a 2004 Nissan pickup that was reportedly stolen and used in an aggravated robbery.

Houston police were tracking the stolen pickup using a GPS device and reporting its location to Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but Tobias fled leading to the pursuit.

Tobias was traveling southbound on Antoine when deputies said he ran a red light and slammed into a Yolanda Juarez's black 2002 Honda that was eastbound on Fallbrook.

Woman killed in police chase 'had a bright future' ahead

The frequent trips to the Las Carmelitas Convent to buy bread for her family were never too burdensome for Yolanda Juarez. She took responsibility for helping her family and when at the convent, she would visit with the nuns who had come to know and love her.

Juarez was on her way Thursday to the convent in northwest Harris County, just seven miles away from her home, when she was struck and killed by a man driving a pickup reported stolen and being pursued by deputies. He ran a red light and collided with her Honda, killing her instantly. She was 21.
