SLIDELL, La. - The St. Tammany Coroner's Office is still working this hour to determine the age and gender of a baby found dead in a trash compactor Monday morning.

Staff members are also trying to learn if the infant was alive when he or she was left in the Slidell apartment complex dumpster.

Police were called around 9 a.m. after a maintenance man discovered the body of a baby, possibly a newborn, in a trash compactor. Police wouldn't say whether the child had any visible injuries, or whether the compactor had been activated with the infant inside.

[...]
Slidell police are asking anyone with information about the baby's mother to call detectives at 985-643-3131.

"We are at the very early stages of this investigation and will hopefully know more by this evening or early tomorrow morning," Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said in the news release.

The news release said Slidell police investigators are working with the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death and baby's age.

This ^^^ is what's wrong in this world!

RIP Little angel.

That's horrible beyond words. Almost unbelievable. Such disdain for a helpless infant.

I will keep an eye out for more info on this tomorrow. I don't recognize that particular complex in Slidell. Thanks for starting the thread.
