Aleida DePina died on July 3 at Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. An autopsy determined that the little girl died of blunt force trauma to her small intestine. She appeared to have been suffering from malnutrition.

Aleida de Pina was born in Cape Verde, but just over three years ago went to live with her father in the United States. Her mother remains in Cape Verde.

"No suspected abuse" was reported to school officials or the Department of Children Youth and Families, according to Supt. Deborah Cylke.
This is one case that intrigues me for all the few and different information in the news.
I got to know about it because my friend is from the family, he says he speaks to his family almost daily by phone but that they don't talk about the case often because it's too hard for them.
However he gave me the most interesting input about what the alledged burn marks / bite marks can be and about Aleida's medical condition , ill post later because it's going to be a big post.
Looking forward to know what you all think about this case .

Some of the neighbors NBC10 spoke with, and who had met DePina said they ‘don't believe' it's possible that he had anything to do with Aledia's death.
Also, those who live in the same apartment building told NBC10 while they didn't see the young girl outdoors very much, when they did see her with DePina, her dad, they never noticed anything strange.

So , first a "disclaimer" , I have no inside information other than what my friend told me , and all I'm posting is just my humble opinion about the case, I'm not stating anything as a fact.
What i find odd in this case is that I can find any recent information online. I also don't know how to search case records, from my researches online I came up with nothing.
From what i read in MSM the people that knew Aleida and her father say they can't see him hurting her.

Aleida went to live with her father in the states just over three years before her death. She lived with her mom in Cape Verde before going to the states because the family felt she'd have a better future there.

FWIW what I was told was that Aleida suffered from a "small stomach" medical condition , I was not given a name for that condition so I went searching and found this.

So her father was used to AD vomiting because of the "small stomach" condition. That's why that day he felt comfortable leaving her alone in the house. When he came back and realized she was really in trouble he got her into the hospital.
Again I was told that what looked like burn marks on her skin were actually chicken pox scars.

In my research I also found that diseases as Impetigo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impetigo and Anetoderma http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anetoderma leave scars and can be associated with chicken pox .
So again FWIW those were the explanations I was given for her alleged burn/bite marks. I'd like to see LE matching the "bite marks" to JD teeth, that would be slam dunk to me.
All I can say is that IMHO I'm skeptical about this case.
I really look forward for opinions and sleuthing in this case.
Again all I said is MOO.
 
Is the trial being streamed live or will there be any tweeters in the court room I wonder.
This baby girl needs justice.

Yep beating a child tends to make them withdrawn and sad. I hope he's sad and withdrawn in jail and never sees the light of day. He and his GF had another child after Aleida's death

What a load of codswallop, perforated intestines by falling off a bike. I don't know how these attorney s sleep well knowing they have to defend these monsters. Thanks for the updates.

In doing so, the panel of five men and seven women cleared Jorge DePina, 37, of the most serious charge he faced: first-degree murder with the possibility of serving life in prison without parole for the death of third-grader Aleida DePina, a slight girl who died July 3, 2013, due to peritonitis brought on by perforation of her small intestine. The verdict indicated that the jury did not view DePina’s crime as premeditated.

DePina faces up to life in prison at his sentencing May 18 before Judge Netti C. Vogel.

“The defendant let her continue to suffer until she went into shock and died,” Judge Netti C. Vogel said.

“He beat a dying child,” Vogel said in chastising an unrepentant Jorge DePina for persisting in emotionally and physically abusing and torturing Aleida in the hours before his daughter’s death.

“I know he’s sobbing for himself, not his daughter. Sir, you are a sadist, evil and a bully ... a sadist and a bully,” Vogel said, adding, “The defendant beat the joy out of his daughter.”
