Who is Washington murder suspect Darron Dellon Dennis Wint ?
By Greg Botelho, CNN
Updated 8:55 PM ET, Fri May 22, 2015

(CNN)He's a once-aspiring Marine with a history of run-ins with the law. A one-time community college student convicted three times in New York, including for second-degree assault. A former American Iron Works worker now charged with murder in the death of the man who led that company -- Savvas Savopoulos -- and his family.
Meet Darron Dellon Dennis Wint.
Daron Wint, Suspect in Woodley Park Quadruple Slaying, in Custody

Updated at 1:46 PM EDT on Friday, May 22, 2015

The man suspected of brutally killing a family of three and their housekeeper in a northwest Washington, D.C., mansion last week was arrested late Thursday night in a traffic stop across town, capping a manhunt that had expanded to New York.
Daron Dylon Wint, 34, who had once worked for the company run by one of the victims, is scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday afternoon.

Thanks.

I thought it had already been established several threads back that this particular make and year was automatic. I am not a car expert by any means, but I do recall reading a discussion regarding that somewhere.

ETA: I am not disputing the point you are making. I just recall someone with more knowledge than I have about cars (which is zilch) making a statement. If you are correct, I think it is very valid and worth noting.

It sounds like it was the hybrid manual/automatic transmission "Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)" ("double clutch").

It is not a straight forward automatic and you would have to know how to switch between manual and automatic modes.

Also looking at the picture taken from inside the Porsche I notice that there are no paddle shifters on the steering wheel which I believe are required with the manual/automatic PDK transmission which makes me wonder if was a pure manual transmission. I am not an expert on Porsche's but perhaps someone more knowledgeable can tell just by looking at the steering wheel if it was a manual or PDK transmission.

My husband has a car that he had modified for the quarter mile, and it has a shifter, but no clutch, so you change gears manually, is that what that is?

A dual clutch transmission? http://gearpatrol.com/2013/08/19/a-guide-to-dual-clutch-transmissions/

Yes that is what is known as a dual clutch transmission. The Porsche version is called "DPK" and paddle shifters on the steering wheel are standard (required) with PDK transmissions

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/...-make-paddle-shifters-available-across-lineup

In the picture taken from inside the family Porsche we see a steering wheel without paddle shifters therefore I think it is safe to conclude that this car was equipped with a fully manual transmission with a floor mounted clutch pedal.

It would be interesting to know what W3 meant by saying the car was being driven erratically. If by erratic they mean the driver was having trouble switching gears then that would point to a complete novice (and would exonerate the personal assistant who was very familiar with the operation of the car). If by "erratic" they mean darting in and out of lanes as if they were on a race-track then that would point to someone with skill in driving a high-performance sports car with a manual transmission.

I really don't think it would have been the driver in charge on the Porsche, but then I can't see him as being involved in this crime at all, IMO it would be someone only used to driving normal, as opposed to performance vehicles, ie DDW.

RE: Google Earth/Maps/Street View
None of these is updated in real time! In fact, most of these images are 1-3 years old.

I think the term erratic was describing weaving in and out of traffic by changing lanes repeatedly....and it points to a race car driver wannabe.

I agree. However, I can also see where "erratic" could describe the lurching and choppiness of an inexperienced driver of such a high performance car.

I agree. I have seen his racing bio video on YouTube and he seems like a very nice well-adjusted young man with a strong motivation towards becoming a professional race car driver. Hard to imagine him being involved in any crime.

Looks like automatic because of the solid gray plastic piece at the shift knob. Manual has a leather shift boot. I believe this was Mrs. S car.

A race car driver 'wannabe' is even more likely to be a sedate road user, they are better trained than general road users and know of the dangers of variables on the streets, and have access to a track if they want to drive fast, and would not feel the need on a suburban street. It's not like their first time in a Porsche as opposed to DDW.

Yes you are right! I stand corrected. It appears that in this model year (2008?) Porsche offered a 100% automatic transmission which is what this clearly is hence no paddle shifters. I was going by the current model line up which indicates only manual and dual clutch manual/automatic transmissions are available. This would be an easy car for even a novice to operate.

I'm still wondering how I mean DW got to the house in the first place. I'm curious how long he was making plans to do this.

This guy is most experienced as a go-kart "race car driver". He has limited experience racing other cars and calling himself a race-car driver reeks of delusions of grandeur, IMHO. He has set up a number of entities in the last few years: Race Haus, J.T. Wa***** Racing and Broke Racing Club, made videos of his efforts to break into racing... He exhibits a high degree of narcissism.

I would place money on him being involved.

Kart racing is a stepping stone to higher forms of motor sport like Formula 1 .. He may well be very serious about his motor sports, he'd also driven performance vehicles regularly for SS so the Porsche shouldn't have been a great novelty experience for him.

I think I missed something - early on in the investigation, even before NG mentioned the $40,000, there was a girl living in Florida who said she was a niece of the S family. Did anyone ever figure out how she heard about the $40,000 before MSM?

I have this crazy theory that DW was coming back for that car and they were heading down to Florida, where there are a lot of races year round. If I was going to steal a Moser, I would put it on a shipping container to China or Saudi Arabia ASAP, but I think a prime suspect had delusions that he was going to race it.

I think the Amerit trucks come with a mechanic. I don't think you can just rent one like a U-Haul. Who/How/Where did DW's clan obtain one of these trucks? Also, fleet mobile service trucks are marketed to Semi-trailer/bus/etc. companies, but I've seen similar mobile garages at race tracks.
