An inquest in Perth is investigating how two-year-old Armarnie Bree Elliott came to have the opiate Oxycodone in her system when she died with 'flu-like' symptoms in May 2012. Her mother, Brook Elliott, said she had only given her daughter two, over-the-counter medications.

Brook, who will give evidence tomorrow, was questioned by police at the time of the little girl's death but police did not take any items from the home as evidence as they were unaware of the drug in the toddler's system at the time. Brook has declined to be interviewed by police since then.

The inquest also heard that about a month before her death, the child had been living with her mother at a house where methylamphetamine was being manufactured.

Ms Ellson said Ms Elliott had contributed to the manufacturing of the drug and was later was given a suspended jail term "for her part in the attempted manufacture of the drug in circumstances which endangered the health and safety of her child".

For anyone like me who never heard of this drug, it's another name for Oxycontin I think, which I have heard about. High abuse rates and danger of accidental overdose, especially in children, it says here.
