24k gold pig pendant and chain

Long Island North Shore
Lattingtown
Nassau County, NY

23 January 2013

"A woman walking her dog near Sheep Lane found the skeletal remains that police said are likely that of a female between the ages of 20 and 30.

The dog sniffed the sand and proceeded to dig up a bag containing human bones, women’s slacks and undergarments.

Police said the remains had obvious signs of trauma, CBS 2’s Jennifer McLogan reported." (CBS)

“We believe we are dealing with a female skeleton,” who is between 20 and 30 years old, Azzata said. “There was women’s clothing with the body, but again don’t attribute that to being a woman.”

Investigators are hoping that a distinct-looking gold necklace with a pig pendant will help them identify the remains.

The animal symbolizes luck in some cultures. The pig is one of the 12 zodiac animals in Chinese culture and signifies different years. Detectives have already started focusing on the years between 1970 and 1985, hoping the pendant may help identify a birth year.

“The best lead we have so far is the necklace,” said Azzata, noting that 24-karat necklaces are popular in Asian and Indian jewelry shops.

There is DNA for this JD Lattingtown so hopefully families will start submitting their own. But, if a family member did this they won't necessarily want to come forward either to report someone as missing or to ID the victim. Just sad, really.

There are two missing women with very similar names...one was recent within the last two years and the other was longer ago. I noticed on a site for missing New Yorkers that there are an odd number of Asian women and girls missing from a rather small area in FLUSHING. NY.

Unfortunately, this was all I could find on Judy.

ETA: Again, Just K and I are cross posting. :floorlaugh:

"She was wearing jeans, sneakers and a T-shirt, according to police"

According to NamUs the victim found at the beach/sandy area off of Sheep Ln in Lattington was wearing jeans:

Just found this on Judy Nam 28, a newsreport where she apparently was interviewed August 2012, and she was reported missing in Dec 2011, so it seems she is NOT missing anymore:

"But riders at Main Street agreed with the MTA, saying the station has been cleaner since trash bins were removed.

“If it’s been working here, it’s probably a pretty good indication that it will work in other stations,” said Judy Nam, 28, who lives near the station."

While there is absolutely no indication that the L-town victim worked as a prostitute, I still decided to go through the Massapequa crime reports for 2006 & 2007... I'm trying to find any matches for the Asian women arrested during those years who now may be listed as "missing". It's a shot in the dark, but I'd rather do this than housework :)

Interestingly, most of the women arrested in these reports have Flushing, NY addresses.

Also, if anyone could provide links to crime reports for areas other than Massapequa... I'd be willing to search those for possible missing persons (not just L-town) and it might be interesting to see how many prostitutes in the area are "missing".

Its seems like alot of women are brought in from other states. Or maybe she was here from China and forced into prositution.

Elegantasians, out of NJ, seems to be mobile, by schedule. They offer (or offered, don't know if they are still around) a wide array of escorts, many of them older ladies. But since we know very little about this victim, pursuing that at this time seems like a wasted effort, imo. We don't even know if this victim worked in the industry.

Frustrating.

I noticed on a site for missing New Yorkers that there are an odd number of Asian women and girls missing from a rather small area in FLUSHING. NY.

I think this is because there is a very large Asian community in Flushing, Queens- so if you're looking for missing Asian women in the NY/LI area, chances are, most will be from Flushing.

Actually she could have been. He could have "married" her so she could get citizenship. However, I think it is unlikely.

Hi guys, I've been looking through NamUs in relation to this case and I found one that seems kinda promising.

Her name is Rosemary Day and she has been missing from Duval County, FL since May 21, 2011. She is half-Filipino and half-white. The unidentified woman was 20 - 30 years old (according to news reports) and Rosemary Day was 27 when she disappeared.
What really interests me, though, is that she is reported to have been wearing a gold necklace at the time of her disappearance. It didn't specify whether it had a little pig pendant, but I think it's worth mentioning nonetheless.

Here's her NamUs profile:

I can't find this woman in the UID forum. I was going to post her in the Long Island Serial Killer unidentified victims thread because there's speculation that she was one of his victims, but that's never been confirmed, so I don't think she belongs there.
