A Tehama County homicide victim from a 1990 cold case has been identified as Rosemma Mendenhall, 45, of Eureka.

Detectives found the human remains and they were identified as female. The woman's remains were decomposed and mummified due to exposure to the elements, explained the Sheriff's Office.

The victim was clothed; however, no identification was located. An autopsy was performed and apparent stab wounds were located on the front and back of the victim’s torso.

EPD helps crack 25-year-old cold case

Tehema County Sheriff’s Office found Mendenhall’s body with apparent stab wounds near a culvert in a decomposed and mummified condition in October 1990 in Corning, south of Red Bluff. However, Mendenhall’s sister called Eureka police in 1998 to file a missing person’s report, according to Powell, and told police that Mendenhall had last called her from Eureka in 1993 — three years after Mendenhall’s body was found.
