A member of the Comanche Nation from Fort Cobb has been charged in the deaths of three of his children.

Federal investigators say Dean Robert Payne, 47, was given a protective order hours before a house fire killed Tye, 5; Keelie, 7; and Cirea, 9. Their bodies were discovered inside the burned-out house early Aug 26. Payne was served with the protective order the previous night. Officials said his wife, Traci, had accused him of assaulting her.

Hours after the bodies were found, officials questioned Payne and subsequently charged him with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of arson.

Investigators say Traci Payne was not at home when the fire broke out.

Grand Jury Indicts Man Accused Of Killing Kids

A Fort Cobb man accused of killing his three young children faces formal arraignment after being indicted by a federal grand jury.

The panel on Tuesday found enough evidence to send the case of Dean Robert Payne, 47, to trial.

Payne is accused of shooting his children, Ciera Payne, 9; Keelie Payne, 7; and Tye Payne, 5, in the head twice before setting his home on fire early Aug. 26.

He is facing charges in federal court because the killings occurred on American Indian land.

Dean Robert Payne is listed as a lifer at the high security Florence Federal Correctional Complex.
