Details of Disappearance
Healey was last seen in El Reno, Oklahoma on September 2, 2006. He is self-employed truck driver, hauling cattle on routes to Kansas and Texas, and kept his trailer parked at a truck stop west of town, and his tractor at his rural home, a double-wide trailer in the 14300 block of west State Highway 66. The day of his disappearance, Healey ate breakfast at an El Reno restaurant, got gas for his personal pickup truck, and then went to the bank in Union City, Oklahoma. He called a friend on his cellular phone at 11:20 a.m. and spoke about washing his tractor-trailer rig later that day. This was the last contact with him; he has never been heard from again.

Healey was reported missing after he didn't show up for a scheduled run. His tractor and his personal pickup truck were parked at his residence and his elderly Dachshund dog, whom he always took with him when he traveled, was also left behind at home. The dog was extremely weak when it was found; it died nine days later. Since his disappearance, Healey's truck and his tractor-trailer rig have both been repossessed.

Prior to his disappearance, Healey regularly visited the Lucky Star, a local casino. He occasionally won substantial sums of money; the summer before his disappearance he won $20,000 one night and $10,000 on another night. There were rumors that he won over $90,000 shortly before his disappearance. He sometimes bragged about his winnings, and there is speculation that he was robbed and killed. There is no record that he visited the casino the day before his disappearance, however. Healey's other hobbies include hunting and fishing. His case remains unsolved.

‘We know something happened to him,’ Investigators take new look at unsolved mystery

An Oklahoma truck driver vanishes from his home. Nine years later, investigators are taking a new look at the case, sorting through rumors and old case files in hopes of finding the truth.

Lt. Mike Grimes, with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, said, “It’s really a whodunit.”

It’s a strange case. Was it kidnapping? Murder? Maybe both.

Healey, a self-employed cattle hauler, was known for showing up on time, those who knew him said.

But since about noon Sept. 2, no one has heard from or seen the friendly, outgoing 70-year-old, who knew people from Kansas to Texas on his trucking routes.

Police continue to look into the possibility of something sinister behind his disappearance, said Lt. David Beaty, Canadian County Sheriff's investigator. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information about his whereabouts, Beaty said.

"We're working it as if there is foul play involved,” Beaty said. "It was not in his (Healey's) character to be missing or to go anywhere without his little dog.”

The 13-year-old dachshund named Brandy was a companion on long hauls in the truck.

Healey hauled cattle for Tony Setzer of Eakley. When Healey failed to pick up a load of cattle in Apache Sept. 6, Setzer called the sheriff's office.

"He (Healey) was always on time and always hardworking,” Setzer said.

Deputies went to Healey's trailer home at 14390 W State Highway 66 in northwest Canadian County. There, the dog Brandy was inside, Beaty said. Healey was not, but his tractor-trailer and his personal pickup were still there. Nothing was missing, Beaty said.

Healey suffered from diabetes and had a heart condition, but he was good about taking his medication, Beaty said.

Healey's sister, June Riley of southwest Oklahoma City, took Brandy to a relative's house a week later.

The dog refused to eat or drink after Healey went missing, and died three days after Riley picked her up.

"She grieved herself to death,” Riley said.

Riley said her brother was the type of person who was too friendly, and too willing to help others in trouble. He was also a frequent gambler at the Lucky Star Casino slot machines in Concho. Healey had won $20,000 one night last summer, and $10,000 another night. He talked about his winnings, perhaps amid the wrong crowd, she said.

Most disturbing, she said, is a rumor that surfaced after he disappeared that he had won $91,000 at the casino the night of June 1.

"I believe someone took him and killed him for money he did not have,” Riley said.

Beaty said a number of rumors have been checked out. Healey had been at the casino the night of Sept. 1, but there is no record of his winning that night, Beaty said.

"We've run a lot of rumors down but nothing that has materialized yet,” Beaty said. "There is no record of any big winnings.”

What investigators do know is that Healey ate breakfast at the J & Kay Restaurant in El Reno the morning of Sept. 2. He then drove to Love's Country Store to fill his pickup with gasoline, and from there he went to the Bank of Union at Union City.

He used his cell phone to call a friend about 11:20 a.m. He talked about washing his tractor-trailer rig later that afternoon.

Beaty said deputies have walked the land around his property.

Healey's tractor-trailer and pickup have since been repossessed by a bank, Riley said, and the trailer home will likely be taken next. She can't settle her brother's estate without knowing what has happened.

Riley said Healey was a favorite of her children during family gatherings.

"I missed him very much at Christmas time this year,” she said. "My kids loved him and had such a great time with their uncle. This year there was just nothing.”

Ralph Healey, 70, who has been missing since Sept. 6, 2006. Authorities in Canadian County on Tuesday, Sept. 12 asked for the public's help in locating Healey.
