From my research of the "Colt" family, it said they lived in SA at one point, just not sure when, and won't be easy finding out seeing we don't know their real name.

I so hope our little girl is named in this thread...dear little soul xxxxxxxx

I can't link/ attach the SAPol picture of the quilt... but it looks to me like the panel above the camel is the same starry fabric as the panel below. I was going to try and save the picture but my internet is slowed :( ... I'm not sure if it has been brought up in the threads (I could have missed it), but the triangles between the hexagons are most likely the corners cut off the hexagons- which do not appear to be evenly cut, so could provide clues to the pieces.

I try for you :)

This is the Judgment filed in the Children's Court, New South Wales, I read it ages ago & can't remember if they mentioned when they lived in SA ( I don't really want to read it again to find out :-( )

Thankyou! ... yes, I think it is either the same star pattern, or another pattern that includes stars. Its so interesting that the pumpkin and camel panels have defiantly resisted whatever has destroyed much of the other fabric (to me it looks more burnt than anything, which goes with the bushfire theory).

It does appear to look like another panel of stars, but i think it's just fragments of the star panel that have come away from the way the quilt was folded. You can get a really good view of the quilt on this link if you zoom in.

Down the bottom just under the stars it looks like a zebra to me with the black n white stripes, and the next image 2 panels over from the pumpkin, the purple looks like it might have cartoon rockets on it.

I don't know why the yellow rows of stitches are NOT burned - IF the quilt was burned at all.

here's a match - the satin SS Commodore boxer shorts

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171872636286

All items have either cut, damaged or marked sewn material tags & some items may also have various other imperfections including (but not limited to) marks & general shelf wear.

I wonder if the person selling these items had a market stall? They're also listing a bulk lot of silk boxer shorts....If the boxers from the the suitcase had matching imperfections, it could give a clue as to where they were sold.

I wonder if the man with the suitcase could have been someone who has to do with real estate. Maybe he had to take pictures of a piece of land/property, found a dirty looking suitcase and wanted to get rid of it.

Left his car at the property he had to put on the market, and walked (sharply dressed) along the road looking for a spot where to get rid of what he probably thought was rubbish...?

I don't think it was burned. The yellow thread is probably nylon and hasn't degraded as fast as the cotton (or cotton blend) material

I'm afraid it's 'just' decomposition. It looks to me likes the child was wrapped in the blanket and clothing and than decomposed :tears:
