Few Clues Surface in Case of Woman Missing 7 Weeks

When pretty, 19-year-old Joyce Walcott left two girlfriends on a busy Reseda street, she promised to be right back.

It was just past noon on a Tuesday. Walcott was looking for a job. She said she was going to walk to the Sav-On, a few paces away, drop off a job application and then rejoin her friends.

They waited in a doughnut shop. She never came back.

A witness later told police that she saw someone who fit Walcott's description talking on the pay phone outside the Sav-On on Sherman Way in the heart of the Reseda shopping district.

Almost seven weeks later, police still have no other significant clues in the disappearance of the young woman with long auburn hair who came from her home in New Mexico less than a year ago to live with her aunt in Reseda.

<snip>

Last week the case received a minor spark when the body of 22-year-old Mary Duggan, who lived only a few blocks from Lickiss, was found naked in a car in Burbank.

Police have found no connection between the two cases. However, because of the coincidence, they are comparing the investigations for other similarities.

"It may be just a coincidence but, then again, it's something we have to look at," Lt. Gaida said.

Bumping.

And how about Case File 1198UFCA on the Doe Network as at least worth looking at?

As far as artist renditions go, Joyce Irene Walcott is close enough to the Doe. Walcott went missing in an area that has easy accessibility to the highway that the Doe was found off of. As far as the Doe's date of death, all that's known is prior to 2009. That would include 1986, the year Walcott went missing - even if there is a large gap it can't be discounted. Both the Doe and Walcott had yellow jewelry although the descriptions/photos aren't all that close. The heights between the Doe and Walcott also match. Walcott is one year outside of the lower age range. Further this Doe's Namus page has numerous rule outs but not Walcott.

Thoughts?

Walcott has a surgical scar on the back of her neck and scars on the lower right portion of her abdomen, her left buttock and her thigh. Her nickname is Sneezie. She previously had a separation between her skull and her spine; it may have been a birth defect. It was surgically corrected in 1985; a bone from another part of her body was implanted in her neck.
Details of Disappearance
Walcott moved to Reseda, California in 1985 from her family's home in Farmington, New Mexico. She planned to finish her senior year at Reseda High School and lived with her aunt and her cousin on Sherman Way.

Walcott was injured in two automobile accidents during the year and had to wear a neck brace afterwards. She found the brace made it difficult to sit through classes and stayed home to recover from her injuries.

She began feeling well enough to search for a job as a cashier during the spring of 1986. She left her aunt's apartment on April 29, carrying her birth certificate and several job applications. Walcott dropped an application off at the 7-11 convenience store on Sherman Way during the late morning hours.

She met two friends at Winchell's Donuts next door and departed shortly after 12:00 p.m. Walcott told her friends she wanted to drop off an application at Sav-On Drugs in the shopping center near Etiwanda Avenue and Sherman Way. She turned the corner and disappeared.

Walcott has never been heard from again. The manager of Sav-On Drugs told authorities that she never arrived at the business.

Her family stated that it is extremely uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning, and she left all her clothes and belongings behind. Extensive searches of the area produced no clues as to her whereabouts. Walcott's case remains unsolved.

This is a very sad case, in that she survived the car accidents, but disappeared, obviously due to foul play. If she really was talking on the pay phone, then it would seem that someone she knew was responsible or at least had knowledge of her fate. Perhaps it was an acqaitence who no one gave much thought to. Why would she have called someone that day? Her boyfriend was at work and he and his family tried hard to find her after she didn't return. But maybe there was someone else she may have called that day? Perhaps for a ride somewhere related to job applications or something? Few Clues Surface in Case of Woman Missing 7 Weeks.

Reseda is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California.

The "7 Weeks" article referenced earlier in the thread said she had recently moved in with her boyfriend who lived in the same apartment complex. The girls at the donut shop were the boyfriend's sister, and the girlfriend of the other brother.

I'm thinking if she was just feeling well enough to pick up a job, she still may not have been well enough to defend herself as she would if fully recovered, particularly with the neck surgery. I believe she may have very well been taken against her will inside a place where she applied for a job.

This Jane Doe was found a year later in Devore which is only an hours plus drive from reseda. They believe the body was at its location for over a year and she was found with white/grey shoes(?) with a lavender strip at the bottom... They believe she is 25-45, but the height matches.
