The mother reported to police that the little girl told her she woke up during the night and was walking in the hallway when a man came from behind the closet door, took her hand and made her go out the back door.

According to LE, the child told her mom the man kicked and punched her in the face. The 5 y/o girl suffered head trauma, facial cuts, contusions and a facial fracture.

What on earth???

What, how is this possible.
Can't wait to hear how this pans out.

A five-year-old girl was taken from her bed by a man who appeared out of a closet and left very badly beaten in her backyard, Monday night, Tuesday morning.

There is a person of interest.

Family sent photos of the injured child to media.

The child's mother told police she went to bed Monday night, and when she awoke Tuesday morning, the girl was not in the house.

She said she found the girl in the back yard. She had been injured.

That photo makes me want to knock someone on the head, and I'm not a violent person.

That's some brazen man to just hide in the closet until mom went to sleep. How could he be sure she wouldn't open it?

Thank you mod, for moving the double thread I started here so quickly! Sorry!

Thank heavens they were able to collect DNA. And thank heavens there was apparently no SA involved. Just shocking. Why on earth would anyone want to do such a thing to a baby??

This is so bizarre. I am interested to see who the POI is and what the motive for this was.

Very interesting comment following article in link above, supposedly from someone who knows who and what happened.

My thought is that it was someone who has something against the mom or the family. Really if he were just a burglar he would have waited til the child went back to her bedroom or was no longer right there in the hall and left. Or, have frightened her there in the apartment and then quickly left.

He went to the trouble of leading her out to the backyard and then took time to beat her mercilessly rather than just leave. Scary.

Hmmm. Gonna sit on my hands and hope a very thorough investigation is done. Poor baby.

I read that comment too. I sent the link for the article and the comments to the police department. I'm sure they already knew b/c if the poster made the comment online surely they said it to investigators but just in case I wanted them to be aware.

My guess is he wasn't sure, and he wouldn't have cared.

I can't understand the reasoning behind lying in wait for a 5 y/o he just wanted to beat. I could understand if this was a sexual assault but not this. A very strange situation.

Seems almost unbelievable.

In my experience, people who are left beaten unconscious don't remember what happened to them.

It also seems odd that she was left in the front yard and no one saw her there until the mother did.

Another little child...:-(

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) --
A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody and will be charged with the rape and attempted murder of a 5-year-old girl in North Philadelphia.

Police say a stranger broke into the Hopkins' family home on the 2600 block of North Hutchinson Street through a window.

He apparently came across the 5-year-old in the hallway.

The child's mother says she went to bed Monday night and when she awoke Tuesday morning, the girl was not in the house.

She said she found her daughter in the backyard. She had been injured.

"I thought she was dead. She wasn't moving," the mother told Action News last month.

Action News has learned the teenager is expected to be formally charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, Rape, Unlawful Restraint, False Imprisonment, Sexual Assault, Aggravated Indecent Assault, Simple Assault, REAP and related offenses.
