Ohio man Eric Warfel has been arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse after the body of his 21-month-old baby daughter Ember Warfel was found decomposing in a crib by a cable installer, last week. Police say Eric told them he had been filling the room with trash, to hid the smell of her body.

He was arrested in Westlake in the company of his seven-year-old daughter. Police are now investigating the death of another of his baby daughters. He was awarded sole custody in a court battle with their mother, Malinali Galdamez, last year.

was also reportedly revealed in court that Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office records show this is the second child Warfel has lost in the past two years.

Five-month-old Erin Delynn Warfel died in March 2013, the records show. The baby died while Warfel lived in Cleveland, and the cause of death was ruled as "sudden unexplained infant death," according to the Associated Press.

OMG Z. Look at the baby's eye. She's scared. :(

Obit, with photo, for Erin, the previous baby daughter of his that died.

There was a fundraiser for this baby after her death but the actual post is gone now, although results show up on google. I think it was run by the dad.

I'm trying to find previous states he may have lived in, especially around 10 years ago. If anyone finds anything, can you link?

MEDINA, Ohio - A Medina father, accused of hiding his decomposing child's body with trash to mask the scent, is raising suspicion into the death of a previous child.

"The fact that a child died previously and now we have another child dead certainly gives rise to a set of suspect circumstances, a high level of suspicion," said Dean Holman, the Medina County Prosecutor.

I think you may be right. That person seems to like a fund raiser!!!

MOO!!

Yes. I just haven't been able to track his addresses before Cleveland though. It will be interesting to find out what happened to all the funds if he does have a history of fundraising for other victims in other states....

Previous baby Erin who died was markedly undersized.

Five-month-old Erin Delynn Warfel was rushed to Fairview Hospital on Easter Sunday 2013, where she later died.

An autopsy performed at the time ruled it a “Sudden Unexplained Infant Death.”

It said the “cause of death (is) undetermined following…analysis.”

The report did note the baby was small for her size – below the third percentile for weight and at the third percentile for length or height.

MEDINA, Ohio -- The father of a 1-year-old girl whose decomposing corpse was discovered in his home earlier this week had full custody of the girl due to her mother's substance abuse problems, records show.

Eric Warfel, 34, was granted full custody over his daughter Ember when he and his wife divorced late last year, according to records from the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. A judge said the girl's mother, Malinali Galdamez, had a history of substance abuse that made her unfit to care for Ember.

MEDINA, Ohio -- A Medina County grand jury indicted a Medina man in connection with keeping the dead body of his 1-year-old daughter in his apartment for over a month.

A grand jury on Tuesday charged Eric Warfel, 35, with a fifth-degree felony of abusing a corpse and a third-degree felony of tampering with evidence.

Warfel was arrested July 29 after a cable company employee discovered the decomposing body of Ember Warfel in a room full of garbage.

More serious charges could be filed as officials investigate the circumstances of Ember's death, Medina County Prosecutor Dean Holman said in court records.

MEDINA, Ohio -- A Medina man who is accused of hiding his daughter's dead body in his home for over a month has a history of drug abuse, according to court records.

Eric Warfel, 35, used cocaine at least one time the year before his daughter's corpse was found decomposing in his apartment, according to records from Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.

Detectives last week found some of the drug in a hotel room where Warfel was believed to be staying.

Warfel is in jail on a $1 million bond while officials investigate the death of 1-year-old Ember Warfel. A cable company employee found the girl's remains on July 29 in a room where investigators say Warfel was throwing garbage to hide the stench.

These poor children have been suffering for years.

Daily Mail; pics and more there:

Father indicted for corpse abuse for keeping his dead
baby daughter's decomposed body in a crib for a month

⁍ Ember Warfel, 21 months old, found dead and badly decomposed in her crib at father's apartment in Medina, Ohio
⁍ Eric Warfel has been charged with with abuse of a corpse and is being held on $1million bail as an autopsy is under way
⁍ Warfel also had a five-month-old child who suddenly died in 2013 and police reported finding evidence of heroin use
⁍ The little girl was discovered by a repairman who was installing wiring and it is believed she was dead for several weeks
⁍ Warfel had filled his daughter's room with trash to reportedly mask the smell of her decomposing body

This new Daily Mail article doesn't have any additional info, but does anyone else think that baby Ember's face seemed to undergo some marked physical changes as she got older? She was adorable of course, but the spacing of her features and one eye seem just outside of a normal range, to me.

Not sure if I'm explaining well, but I think it's possible she developed a medical condition, or something had happened to her before she died?

I'm certainly not a doctor or an expert but it looks like possible FAS maybe.

After reading Cortney's thread I seen the following post from a few days ago.

The man arrested in Ohio was Eric M Warfel, not Eric G Warfel. don't think this is the same person.

http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-...-crib-pleads-not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity

"MEDINA, Ohio - The Medina dad accused of leaving his dead baby in a crib until she was so badly decomposed that she was unrecognizable pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in court Monday."

"During Warfel's first court appearance, the magistrate said Warfel told police that he put 1-year-old Ember in the crib when she died on or about June 18 and didn't notify authorities or the rest of the child's family."

"This the second child of Warfel's to die."

"Five-month-old Erin died on March 31, 2013. The cause of death on the death certificate was sudden unexplained infant death."

I think the poor guy did have some kind of a mental break. Or else he would have found a secret place to bury her.
