FBI searching for missing Cedar Park boy
By KXAN News Published: September 11, 2014, 5:51 pm Updated: September 12, 2014, 7:26 pm
CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — Authorities are asking for help in finding a missing 2-year-old boy from Cedar Park believed to be a victim of child abuse. Colton Brandt Turner turns 3 years old in nine days.

Police received a call about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday concerned about Colton’s welfare. Cedar Park officers were able to find his mother, 20-year-old Meagan Work, but did not find Colton. Police say Work has been living out of her car for the last several months. Officers found her outside a Cedar Park home but would not say who alerted them to her whereabouts.

Affidavit: Mother’s boyfriend led police to Colton Turner’s grave
Updated: 11:53 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2014 | Posted: 9:53 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2014
Work had told inconsistent stories about what happened to her son, Colton, police said. But after learning that Turner had showed police where the boy was buried, Work said Colton had died on July 7 after having a seizure the day before, according to the affidavit.
Work said Colton had hit his head on an air-conditioning unit inside a motel room on July 6 “as a result of Colton being assaulted,” according to the affidavit. The document does not say who allegedly assaulted the boy. Colton was unable to walk and was not acting normally afterward, the document says. Later that day, Colton had a seizure andWork and Turner brought him back to the motel room to nurse him back to health, the affidavit says. Work said that when she woke up on July 7, Colton was dead and they buried him.

Meagan Work's evidence hearing continues

AUSTIN -- Meagan Work, the woman charged with tampering with evidence and injury to a child in the death of her 2-year-old son Colton Turner, appeared in a Travis County courtroom on Tuesday during the second day of an evidence hearing.

Work's lawyers are attempting to suppress statements and confessions she made to law enforcement following her arrest in September 2014. Her attorneys hope a Travis County judge will throw out evidence against her ahead of her trial this fall.

More at link.

Meagan Work’s defense worked again today to have all her statements tossed from the record that she made while in custody the days leading up to the discovery of her son’s body, according to court testimony. The court heard from a nurse who reviewed Work’s medical records from the months leading up to, and during, her time in custody. Judge David Wahlberg has not yet made a decision on whether to strike or keep Work’s statements.

Asked why the defense is seeking to toss out all Work’s comments, attorney Darla Davis said: “We believe that what the police did violated [Work’s] constitutional rights.”

The pretrial will continue October 6.

October 6th!

Hoping MWs pretrial continues today as scheduled.

I dont see any updates in the local news since August. Its MTs pretrial we are waiting for, and I'm guessing it was rescheduled.

Sorry for the confusion in previous posts; there are several conflicting court dates reported in MSM. :gaah:Here are the next scheduled court dates for MW and MT, according to the Travis County Criminal Courts docket.

MW: 10/19/2015 "PTRW" see page 1113 of the pdf.
MT: 11/10/2015 "PTW" see page 1031 of the pdf.

I am guessing those^^^ codes mean pretrial, because it also lists "PJURY" for Meagan in February 2016, which may mean jury selection. I am not finding a key to the acronyms in the document.

Well this is disappointing, but hopefully there is enough evidence that it will not monkey-wrench her ultimate conviction.

FB photos, several witness statements... I need to review the warrant. Can't remember. Sigh...

In a case that drew national attention over the state’s handling of child abuse reports, Michael Turner is expected to plead guilty Friday to felony charges in the 2014 death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son, Colton Turner. Turner is facing charges of injury to a child by omission and tampering with evidence. He is expected to appear in court at 9 a.m. before Travis County state District Judge David Wahlberg. His attorney, Steve Brand, declined to comment on the details of the plea agreement.

''Sources have confirmed to FOX 7's Elizabeth Saab, Michael Turner, a suspect in the murder case of Colton Turner, will plead guilty to his involvement in the crime.'''

From your. Link "Sources said the deal is for 20 years and the plea will be accepted on Friday."

What's up with the boyfriends of missing/dead babies mothers accepting 20 year pleas? (Ruben Ebron --cough cough)

On KLBJ am in Austin, I heard today that Michael Turner is not Colton's bio dad, but is his "adoptive dad". I hadn't heard this anywhere else, and it certainly makes sense. It seems so common for the boyfriend of the mother to beat a toddler boy to death; I just don't see it that often in an intact set of biological parents. It does happen, but when you look at this darling child and then hear that maybe the "dad" isn't actually the bio dad but the mom's boyfriend, it seems it fits the typical profile more.
